Emily Wallace, The Dowager Viscountess Tuncliffe, had a marriage made in hell. Given away by her father to the titled Simon Wallace she managed to keep her wits while her husband drank and gambled away their monies. Killed in a riding incident two years ago, she is finally free. With some pocket money and a small home in disrepair she hires Duncan McAllister, an architect and widower with a three year old daughter. They become friends.

Duncan knew the bully Simon Wallace when they attended the same school years before. He couldn't understand any woman wanting to marry him unless he made a complete change. He sooned learned that Lady Emily was unlike no other woman he had met before. Tenacious with some of her opinions, she could spark fire if you riled her enough. Headstrong with his own views, he only meant to help the young widow. Too bad she didn't ask him.

This slow-to-start romance had a couple secondary stories infused among the pages. Instead of flowing smoothly, it complicated the romance. Perhaps if it was a full-length novel it would have been more interesting. I know from past experience that even the shorter Zebra and Signet romances can have good chemistry between the leading characters. I just didn't feel it here. ***Two stars for OK***

There was nothing wrong with the book, it just wasn't memorable, nothing stood out, bland
