Note for purists: This book is not a re-telling! It uses characters and circumstances from classics to tell a new tale. This book contains steamy HEAs like all JT books and assumes the reader is an adult; some grown folks themes do appear in this story, including PTSD and recovering from family trauma.
I could only get through a quarter of this book. I always feel some type of way when Black female characters are made to seem so weak and easily manipulated by white characters. This book seemed like it was set in the 50s not late 2000s.
That is what Beau Blackstone and Darcy Dawson wish they could have. One party sealed their fate. Neither one of them had the self esteem and the courage to tell the other that they loved the other since childhood. But instead, Beau married someone he never should have and Darcy lived her life always wondering what would have happened to them IF. She was heart broken and wanted to make sure Beau knew it. He was equally determined to make sure she knew he had always loved her and always will.
Jorga wrote a very attention grabbing and keeping story that was full of turns and twist and mystery. This story kept me guessing. I was heartbroken when Darcy told Beau how much he'd broken her heart. I felt like I was right there witnessing the carnage of her anguish. I normally don't like cliffhangers but this one was soooo good, I am bound to read the rest. I just want to know how all of this will turn out. This was a well written story.
There is something intriguing about this series. It is rather interesting to read a book in which all the characters are flawed to the point where you are not sure you even like them. In the first of the series Beau and Darcy grew up together. Beau has always been in love with Darcy however because of a youthful indiscretion he ends up married to Heather. After several miscarriages Heather who is aware of his feelings for Darcy suggests he has an affair with Darcy and conceive a child that all three will raise. Darcy who feels Beau betrayed her with Heather and I don't know why considering she never gave him any indication she cared for him in the least goes along with the idea when Heather threatens her mom and that's just one plot going on. A lot happening needed three books to keep up. Enjoy the read.
The writer starts out painting a picture of best friends and family,we all know that this leads to a mystery in the making. We get a reporter and tape recorder and suddenly we are thrown into a story that reads like an old black and white. The writing is just good and chemistry comes up off the pages. The pace of the story moves effortlessly that you don't get you've come to the end. The story ends on a cliffhanger and a whole lot of questions. So looking forward to the next exciting episode.
But I don't like cliffhangers. What if I didn't have the complete set, I'd be so upset right now. That's why you only get four stars. I do love your storytelling skills however and you did feel remorse for the cliffhanger so, I accept your apology. I think I know who the siblings are though so I have no choice but to continue reading. I will review the next book or the series when I'm done.
3.5 stars because despite the obvious attempts at misdirection I enjoyed reading the story. I was already irritated by female characters that keep running from the men they love so my review my be unfairly influenced.
The sex scenes are hot and I appreciate that they didn’t make a huge deal out of the kinkier bits of their sex lives. No unrealistic surprise virgins who couldn’t get past their unrequited love.
The author threw way may of the tired romance tropes.
While looking for an interracial romance I stumbled upon this one. Oh my gosh!!!! I was completely engrossed with the story from page one! I read it all night long and then started book two immediately. The characters ,the mystery all came together perfectly. I Books that make me want to turn off the tv and just read are a must in my life!! Thanks
Reading part 2, just because I want to know what happened. This book seemed so good at the beginning, then my interest began to wane and I started skipping pages.
