This was such a good story. It made me feel so many different things at once.

Carrie has a unbelievable amount of strength and as much as I loved her at times I wanted to slap her. She decided she had to live in the black and grief and refused to look past that. I just wanted her to wake up and see all the good but, she was stuck in her way. Even with that I still loved her and loved how Sam describes her, a survivor.

Sam is utter perfection!!!! I loved him so much. He was funny, sweet, kind, understanding, the list could go on forever.

Sam is Carries ex boyfriend from college and they see each other 6 years later when he rescues her. The second he sees Carrie all his emotions start coming back and Carries wall start building even stronger but, you will see why she is the way she is. The last chapter of this book was so touching that I couldn't help but, shed a tear or two. As always Sam was perfect dealing with the situation!!!!

The only thing is I was there was a extended epilogue set a few years later, I would have loved that!

I got this book from the author in turn for an honest review...so here is my honest opinion.

Our female protagonist Carrie has been through a lot. Without giving away too many spoilers let's just say that the last couple years of her life haven't gone well. Devastating news left her broken and depressed. And instead of trying to put the pieces of her life back together, Carrie just kicked them aside and hid them in the darkness.

Our second protagonist was Sam. He is a fire fighter and just a simple, nice guy who always tries to do right by others. One night while working, he goes to a house that had been caught on fire, and inside the house he rescues his ex-girlfriend who broke his heart six years prior. And surprise, surprise...he's still in love with her.

Now...don't get me wrong, this story line was extremely intriguing. I found myself wanting to learn more. Carrie was strangely likable for someone who constantly pushed everyone who cared about her away, and you could easily sympathize with her on the terrible things that had happened in her past. It was nice to see Sam try and help Carrie get her life back together, and her sister Carly was amazing! (Can we please have a separate novel or novella for Carly?)

But I guess you're probably wondering why I only gave it 3 stars? Well...honestly, I found myself wishing that this novella were actually a novel. I feel like the relationship between Sam and Carrie wasn't touched on enough. I wanted more backstory to their life together six years ago. I wanted to know why Sam was still in love with a woman who broke his heart, when they weren't together for more than a year before they broke up. I needed to feel more of that passion between them. And as much as I loved the fact that Carrie grew throughout the story, and that she had a lot of substance to her character, I still felt like I needed more...like something was missing.

Overall this was a good read. The writing, even for an ARC was pretty good! But sometimes when stories are super heavy like this one, they can feel a bit rushed and over exaggerated. And if I'm reading a contemporary novel, fiction or not, I want it to be realistic. And there were moments in this book that felt so much like fantasy to me. I mean, I don't care how much you love cupcakes...if your sister that you love and adore is begging you to stay and miss your flight, and you're still refusing, then there is no way that an ex boyfriend that you don't even want to see will be the one to change your mind. Not even if he's promising to give you the name of the best cupcake place in town.

So do I recommend it? Sure! It's a quick read that'll keep you interested the entire way through. Even if it isn't the best story you've ever read, I'm confident that you won't regret reading it.

With this book, Jackie Wang has entered the world of Paige Tyler's Dallas Fire & Rescue.
Having never read the original series, I am coming into this with a fresh perspective and I found that I didn't have to know anything about it to enjoy this novel.
Carrie is a mess of a woman who has lost almost everything she holds dear and has returned home to Dallas to try to escape her troubles. But as you all know, you can't run away from your troubles. You carry them everywhere with you until you deal with them. Carrie makes an awful lot of terrible mistakes throughout this book (BIG mistakes), but I never found myself disliking her in any way. Underneath all of her troubles you can see the vibrant and strong willed young woman struggling to break free.
As a firefighter, Sam has a natural tendency to rescue people in trouble and Carrie is no exception. The man has the patience of a saint. He puts up with Carrie's hot and cold mental state and a whole lot more. I wanted more and more of this yummy man! And that, right there, is pretty much the only fault I found with this book (which is actually NOT a fault)! More Sam, pretty please. He was hot and lighthearted. I love guys who don't take everything to seriously, but know exactly the types of things they do need to be serious about.
I read this in one sitting. The characters and the story drew me in completely. It is a quick, but heart wrenching read. I give this novella 5 stars.

Jackie Wang has gone above and beyond my expectations for this book. I never expected to dive into Fireproof, and come out feeling the way I did. This novella is so packed full of emotions that are raw and surreal, it'll leave you heart broken and whole. An odd combination, but once you read it, you'll understand. You will feel all the feels.
It's not everyday you read about a heroine comes out a survivor of many wars and battles within the mind, but you haven't read Fireproof. Carrie is not only a strong and lovable character, but she is also fragile. But not nearly fragile enough to shatter. I loved everything about Carrie. Even when you got the bad parts of her.
Then there's Sam, a heroic firefighter who swoops in and saves the day, in more ways than one! He's strong, he's funny, he's loving, he is everything you could want in an alpha male! But he is also about to get the ride of his life when lovely Ms Carrie comes back into his life!
Fireproof is full of angst, lust, love, battles, and lots of healing heartache (that might not make sense, but wait until you read it)
I want more than anything to give this novella more than a measly five stars because it is worth a million and one!

3.5 ⭐️'s

Fireproof is a story about second chances, personal struggles, and just really awful circumstances. Carrie is devastated by a life threatening diagnosis, and the hits just keep coming at her and Carrie's inability to cope and process, lead to some very bad reactions. Carrie is wallowing in self pity, self doubt, immaturity, and guilt. She has an amazing sister, Carly, while younger than Carrie, she clearly is the more mature and responsible one. Carly continues to support Carrie regardless of what she does, or how she reacts. Sam is introduced early in the story. Sam, he's a hot sexy fireman, who happens to be Carrie's ex college boyfriend. Six years have passed before they are reunited. Sam saves Carrie's life and realizes how much he still wants to be a part of her life. Carrie however, isn't too keen on their reunion and fights against their attraction. Sam perseveres hoping to convince Carrie to give them another try. Sam is pretty amazing! The story switches from the past to the present as it unravels everything Carrie has had to deal with. The big reveal comes towards the end of the book, I felt it was a little late in helping me understand Carrie and her actions and to connect with her.

Some novella length books work and some don't. This most definitely falls into the first category and I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. Jackie Wang did an amazing job of telling a full story in a short time.

The book is really well written, with a very engaging plot. It is kept simple enough to suit the length of the story but has enough depth to retain interest. The characters are well written, likeable and believable Sam is a sweet and caring guy without being wimpy and whilst Carrie is broken she is strong underneath it all.

Although this is a second-chance romance, it wasn't typical of the genre and I also loved that, whilst things weren't easy between Sam and Carrie, the story was neither cliched or predictable.

I love the author's writing style and always find her books easy to read, highly entertaining and very worth the time and money.

I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review. This was my first book by this author and she will definitely be someone i will be reading more by. I loved the characters in this book. They both drew so many emotions and was so powerful. Sam is absolutely amazing and is a great main character. There was a few times that Carrie kind of put me off but staying with it to the end i can see how it works for her and her personality. Is a definite must read and i will be checking out the rest of the series.

This was another really good book by Jackie Wang. Carrie certainly has a lot of issues from her past that she is having trouble dealing with. Lucky for her she has a ver supportive sister, and a fireman that saved to try to help her out. Carrie and Sam are both amazing characters, and I loved the way the plot came together.

Carrie has been living in emotional turmoil for a long time. She isn’t even coping. Sam is wonderful. He tries to get Carrie to let it go and experience fun and laughter again. There was such a painful story Carrie was hiding. I was glad Sam made his reappearance in her life.

The Fire & Rescue series has been amazing! Sam and Carrie are no longer the kids they once were. Carrie has been through some rough patches. I loved Sam - he was just one hot man and ready to save Carrie again. Steamy and bumpy, but no less engaging!

For Carrie Bridges her life fell apart on December 21st, 2016. A day that was to be celebrated upon ended in disaster and her life continued to spiral downhill from there.

But when disaster strikes Carrie again she is saved by a former boyfriend, Sam Hanover. Sam can see that the spark has gone from Carrie's eyes but will he be enough to put the light back into her eyes?

Will Carrie forgive herself for the past and let herself live for the future?

Wow - this novella is full of emotion and a great story that leaves you begging for more.

What I loved most about Carrie was how much she battled with grief in a way that I could see so many people doing. That day caused so much pain and she was barely surviving after and had to hit rock bottom before she could see that her life was worth living.

Sam was a knight is shining armor who never gave up on Carrie, no matter how much she pushed him away. My favorite part was when he asked for 1 week for Carrie "to fall in love with life again". My heart just burst as he was trying to save her without pushing her and he did know her so well after all the time apart to appeal to her weakness, cupcakes.

The book was about growing as an individual and coming to terms with a past that you can't change no matter how hard you want to. It's about forgiveness and how if you never forgive yourself for mistakes you can't be whole in the future. It's about love with someone that truly loves you and most importantly loving yourself, scars and all.

WOW… I absolutely LOVED Fireproof! Jackie Wang has truly outdone herself with this story A well-written, quick read that grabs ahold of your heart from the very beginning while articulately tackling some very difficult life issues.

Telling the story of Carrie and Sam and the rekindling of an old flame; Fireproof takes you on a journey of love, heartbreak, sadness, hope and ultimately forgiveness.

Jackie Wang is an amazing story teller who just gets better and better with every story that she writes. Fireproof has easily become my all-time fave of her stories. I can’t wait to see where she takes us next.

A novella that will grip you until the you turn the last page. IN the beginning we meet Sam who saves Carrie from a fire. Sam and Carrie have a past and Sam can't seem to let Carrie go. He wants her to give him one week. Sam is the ultimate alpha male with a heart of gold. He goes all out to win Carrie over, and in the mean time won me over. Carrie was such a deep characters. She tugged at your heart strings. In every chapter you could feel her pain. As the story progresses we learn more about her and how hard her life has been since Sam. Once again Ms. Wang writes a book that will make you fall in love with the characters and the story.
