Fassbinder je známý jako svérázný a nesmírně produktivní filmový režisér, ale svou kariéru rozjížděl v divadle. Většina biografií jeho začátky s Action Teater a Antiteater zmiňuje i díky důležitým setkáním se svými pozdějšími spolupracovníky a divácky zábavným skandálním okolnostem, ale tohle je zřejmě první pokus se zabývat čistě seriózním rozborem jeho divadelní činnosti. Autor, který měl jistě pátrání v archivech těžké díky tomu, že němčina není jeho rodilá řeč, odvedl solidní práci, vypátral inscenace, místa a mluvil s některými ještě žijícími kolegy. Zároveň se zavázal, že nebude věnovat pozornost historkám spojeným s produkcí a oněm skandálům a svůj slib dodržel, což bohužel zároveň z knihy udělalo suše historické čtení, které statečně zápolí s přeléváním divadelní činnosti RWF do filmové a zpět. Kniha ale může být právě zajímavá pro zmapování dosud neznámých míst, i když by autor jistě víc těžil ze znalosti později vydaných dalších biografických knih.
