Spring has come once again to the Triple Creek Ranch, but things aren't all peaceful and sunny. Orlena's attitude has even Jenelle wondering what to do, while Stephen struggles along in school and Norman faces the possibility of losing one of his ranch hands. Join the Mavrich family for a season of strangers, storms, and struggles.
Rebekah A. Morris has lived her entire life (as of now) in Missouri. Being home educated during her school years was great, except for writing. That was the worst subject (along with math) that she had to do. It wasn't until after she graduated that she discovered the joys and wonder of writing. Now she can't write enough. After spending six years in research and writing, she completed her first book, "Home Fires of the Great War," a 500+ page, historical fiction about home life in the United States and Canada during the First World War. Since then, she has been an avid writer and always has more than one story going on at once because only one story at a time got tiring and dull.
I received this book for my birthday earlier this year, which was a special surprise. :D Several things delayed my reading of it, but I finally got to crack it open and enjoy another season on the Triple Creek Ranch.
Jenelle and Norman were great as always, and Lloyd is my favorite of the regular ranchhands. I always enjoy the side characters in these books so it was neat to see some new developments in their lives. *huge grin* And I am entirely delighted by the Mavrichs' new neighbors. <3
Throughout the series, Orlena has undergone some major heart changes. It’s been neat to see her . I enjoyed her journey even more in this book, since it hit very close to home. Following Christ is a day to day choice and relational setbacks occur when our relationship with Him isn’t right.
Stephen was such a sweetheart in this one. Probably my favorite character. (Although Marian is darling.) It hurt to see Orlena being so mean to him, especially since he’s still so afraid of consequences for getting in trouble. .
Best quote: “Do you want him to look at you and decide that if Christians are like you, than he doesn’t want to be one?” “No.” It was the faintest of whispers.
Altogether, this was a sweet and satisfying read! ;)
So, how do you end a great western family series where most of the lingering suspense has been resolved and there's not a lot left to tie up? With a book like this! <3
As sad as I am to say goodbye to the ranch, this book is the perfect capstone for the series--a few lingering threads pulled back in and resolved, some new issues worked through, and some familiar problems seen in a fresh light, but without seeming at all repetitive. Actually, Orlena's struggle with her old selfishness was done so well that I kept having flashbacks to my own growing up; surely I can't be the only one who used to find suspiciously familiar faults re-emerging as I entered new phases of life. And her attempts at being a "big sister" to Stephen--ouch, yes, an understandable wrong turn on her part met with just-as-understandable resistance from her new "brother." (Have to admit, though, I can't let myself think too long about the family logistics in this series or my brain threatens to shut down. Norman is her brother, but Stephen is basically her brother, but Stephen's calling Norman "Pa" now [<3], and they're both basically older siblings to Marian, only Orlena's really her aunt...help! XD)
I continue to adore Stephen, even with his stubborn streak, and I love the way he's finally brought to the end of himself and forced to see his need for Christ. <3<3<3 I loved getting to meet some of Jenelle's family as well--if the series were to continue, I'd love to see more of Judah! And eeeeeep! Bruce! Did not see that coming! Oh, and his conversations with Norman over the whole thing were perfect. I love the relationship between these two! <3 And I loved the way things worked out for Ky and his mother as well. :)
What else can I say? I loved the whole series, and I know I'll be coming back to it--if I can get up the nerve to deal with Orlena's whining in the beginning! But whether I read the whole series in order again or not, I know I'll be re-reading my favorite bits and pieces often. Shelving this whole series in a special place in my mind reserved for characters I adore to death. <3
4.5 stars
Content--some arguing/name calling by children; some disobedience/hiding things from parents (temporary); a child slapped by an adult;
I loved this ending to the series. The ending was very realistic in the fact that not all the threads are perfectly wrapped up. It was still satisfying though.
Another great book in the Triple Creek Ranch series! This one had some very unique and interesting turns of events, such as Stephen's encounter with the stranger and the ending of the schoolchildren's little exploration excursion. The lessons of how we need the Lord and can neither be saved nor walk with Him after salvation without His help were the perfect pair. A sweet story of the Mavrich family and their friends!
This was a great conclusion to the Triple Creek Ranch Series! I enjoyed meeting the new family members. And the potential romance was not unexpected :). There was still character development on the part of Orlena and Stephen. And the spiritual lessons were well done, as always. A great wrap-up to the series (though I wouldn't mind one bit if there were more books added;).
Some great Christian doctrine lived out. Interesting twists and turns, and resolutions like: we cannot do life on our on, we need the Lord.
The only issue for me is, I kept thinking Orlena would grow up to marry ( in my mind) Lloyd. I was looking forward to more fireworks between them, but then friendship, love, marriage and a family. Oh well...it still did end on a sweet, positive godly note.
But beware authors, readers ( tho not authors), do sometimes have their own ideas how your story should go haha.
Well...where is this authors next series....??? waiting.... I am sure I have been waiting for days already!
I know I wrote this book, but I still enjoyed visiting with the characters again, remembering different events as they unfolded, and watching Stephen and Orlena's relationship. It's been a fun visit to the Triple Creek Ranch and I'm glad I reread them all.
So sad to get to the last book in this series! Does anyone know if there are plans for more books in this series? Loved the book and hate to see it end!
This book was really good! I enjoyed every minute I spent reading it! I’m so sad the Triple Creek series has to come to an end. 😞 Maybe Rebekah Morris will write another?! The last few chapters of this book were especially good! Starting around chapter 22 is where lots of things start happening! And I just knew Stephen would come around before he end of this book! The last half a page was my favorite part, just the Mavrich family, sitting alone on a Sunday afternoon, together 😌
The Triple Creek Ranch books are definitely going to be passed down to my kids. And, I will be in reading this series again in the near future. I hope everybody else who reads these books gets as much out of them as I did! Rebekah Morris did an amazing job and I can’t wait to read more books by her. I’ve already read Woodbreak and those were awesome too!
