Bon Appétit is a monthly American food and entertaining magazine. Each issue contains recipes, entertaining ideas, restaurant recommendations, and wine reviews. Owned by Condé Nast, it is headquartered at the One World Trade Center in Manhattan, New York, and has been in publication since 1956.
Average, there are a few recipes that I can use for party’s but almost all of them you can’t give away. Almost all the recipes you have to use ASAP, so it wouldn’t really work as gifts....
Changes in food fashion are gradual and therefor inapparent until one looks at a thirty-year-old cookbook (remember Garlic Almonds made with soy sauce?). This little paperback was tucked into a shipment from Alaska Scholarly Salvage in Anchorage as a "freebie." It contains recipes from pre-1983 issues of Bon Appétit (which has been published since 1956). Some of the recipes for food to make and give to others show it. The Pickled Pork Pate recipe calls for saltpeter; where would one find a teaspoon of saltpeter in the 21st Century? The recipe for lavash is up-to-date as American interest in this Middle Eastern cracker has grown. Remember baking bread in a flower pot? And there is a quite respectable recipe for English Plum Pudding which, appropriately, contains no plums.
