Red Riding Hood meets Beauty from “Beauty and the Beast” in a fast-paced retelling that interweaves the beloved fairy tales.
Scarlett Ridinghood’s mother disappeared. And her mother’s mother. The Ridinghood women are cursed, each of them doomed to fall prey to a wolf within the Forbidden Forest.
But this is where it ends. Scarlett is determined to stop the curse before it gets her, too. She trains, she prepares, until one fateful day Beauty disappears into the forest that haunts Scarlett’s dreams. Scarlett knows that to enter the forest means risking her own life, but she decides she must to save her best and only friend.
Dangers she can't imagine lurk within. Propelled by her love for Beauty, she pushes through each obstacle with the help of an unlikely ally.
Will Scarlett find Beauty before the wolf finds Scarlett? Will she live to tell the tale? Or will it all end here with the curse?
The Crimson Cloak is the first book in the Cursed Fairy Tale series, a series of fairy tales made fresh with new friendships and surprising twists. If you like strong women, action-packed magical fantasy, and a touch of romance, then this series is for you.
Sarah writes fairy tales with a twist, often combining more than one tale in a story. Her characters are fierce, with strong friendships, and mostly troubling romantic relationships (who doesn't have that problem?). When she isn't writing or reading, you can find her throwing dance parties in her living room, drinking a Manhattan, or on a long hike in the woods.
I liked this book quite a bit. The pace was good, and the writing except for some mistakes here and there was also pretty good. I found the take on the red ridinghood story quite interesting, but i have to say i didn't care much about the beauty and the beast part.It would have been better if it had focused on just the one story.
I received this as part of the member giveaway and loved it. Recently we have seen a lot of modern adaptations of the old fairy tales. Some of these adaptations are good and some are too similar to the original. This was one of the good ones. The author has merged two very famous fairy tales ( Beauty and the Beast & Red Riding Hood) and has come up with a very interesting new story. It is a new story because the author has just picked up some very basic points from the two classics. The rest is all original and definitely very readable. She has created a new world altogether.. Kudos!!
The story was well written and entertaining. If you like fairy tales with a twist then pick up this book because it will take you on a journey unlike no other.
I’m a sucker for all thing fairy tale. I especially love it when authors retell the old stories in new ways that do justice to the original fairy tales, but fill in gaps in the story. Little Red Riding Hood is one story that desperately needs its gaps filled in. The Crimson Cloak wove together the stories of Red Riding Hood and Beauty and the Beast. While the stories are so well known and the outcome is certain, this novel made the stories seem delightfully new and filled them with many twists and surprises (including a magical world and lots of fairies). I look forward to reading other books by Sarah Morse Adams in the future.
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is a captivating twist of two fairytales. Scarlett Ridinghood is due to go into the Forbidden Forest be killed by her wolf, but before he can get to her, her best friend Beauty walks into the Forest and Scarlett decides she must find her. Beauty finds herself locked into a beasts castle. On the way to save Beauty, Scarlett and Rhys, who is her wolf, befriend each other and Scarlett wanders through Wonderland. This is an intriguing new tale that captures your your imagination. It is a very interesting read. I received a free copy of this book from LibraryThing. This is my honest opinion.
The book was well written however the world it was set in could have been explained or structured more fluidly. Some of the details of the book were a little to bizarre and tended to remind me of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
Though I am not usually a fan of fantasy I liked this book. It was given for review from library thing.com and I am glad that I received this copy. Many fairy tales came together in the story in a way that drew you in. This was a very readable book that kept my interest from start to finish.
