This book was a gift to my son from my grandfather, who worked as a Geologist for most of his adult life. As it is his 93rd birthday today, it seemed like a fitting time to borrow said book and give myself a refresher course.
A first glance, this seems like a basic "geology for beginners" book, complete with tons of glossy photographs and drawings to illustrate. But the amount of actual information contained in this book is very surprising. Unlike other books of its kind, which may offer a page or paragraph at a time on a wide topic, this one provides a lot more detailed information, dividing each topic up further than most, and delivering pertinent information in easily digestible chunks. As an introduction to geology, I think it is a great resource, certainly a good way to gauge whether someone enjoys the topic enough to warrant deeper reading and research. (if you're in this category, give me a holler and I'll point you towards some of my grandfathers books - gotta keep those royalty cheques rolling in, no? lol)
