Kaufmann/Schwitters built its reputation on clear and concise exposition, numerous examples, and plentiful problem sets. This no-frills text consistently reinforces the following common thread: learn a skill; use the skill to help solve equations; and then use the equations to solve application problems. This simple, straightforward approach has helped many students grasp and apply fundamental problem solving skills necessary for future mathematics courses.
I started reading this book as a review of algebra; I continued as a practice to help my children with their math as they got into more advanced mathematics.
I believe that the rating for this book is simply because it is a math book, not for the actual quality of the writing. I find that the author does an excellent job of writing and explaining mathematical concepts.
