Santa Claus Is Coming To Town is the first book in the Pineville Christmas series by Cynthia Cooke. This is a feel good short that is sure to get you in the Christmas spirit. When I read it, it was a rainy, cold day so I sat by the fire with the tree lights on. What a wonderful way to spend an afternoon.
Nicole Flattery left her small hometown of Pineville, New Hampshire for the big city of Boston to pursue her career as an architect. She is trying to climb the ladder at the company she works for which requires long working hours and commitment. She hasn’t made it home in four long years. But when her father takes a spill, she is forced to go home to care for him.
The town of Pineville loves Christmas. Her father was always the town Santa Claus but now with his injuries, he will have to let someone take his place. Someone like the oh so sexy next door neighbor, the same man that was the object of Nicole’s childhood crush. And Nicole is being forced to dress up like an elf and act as his photographer.
“He was a complication she didn’t need. A big one.”
Landry Parsons remembered Nicole as an awkward, quiet girl when they were kids. Wow has she changed. Landry is a single parent to his little girl. It broke her heart when her mother abandoned them. Landry is not going to take a chance on letting her get attached to Nicole just to have her leave as well. But keeping his distance is getting harder and harder as they spend time together.
“It felt good to remember, good to feel like part of a family. Good and sad at the same time. It had been too long.”
Nicole is reminded of all the good parts of living in a small town and at the same time, her feelings for Landry and his little girl are growing by the day. Could she give up a job she worked so hard for in Boston to come back here?
“She might think she could run away from Christmas, but this town and its spirit had a way of catching up with a person and reeling them in.”
This is pretty short but is sure to leave you feeling plenty of Christmas spirit. I fell in love with these characters and with this adorable town. I can’t wait to read the next book, A Christmas To Remember.
Not only SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN in this holiday novella by Cynthia Cooke. Nicole has been gone for 4+ years and bah humbuged every one of them. This is not her favorite season. Her dad has an accident, she flies home to help and ends up embroiled in Christmas hijinx up to her eyebrows. Dad is the town Santa but can’t manage this year - broken leg.
Who does she meet first? Her high school boy friend and he looks good. He’s got a precocious daughter who steals the story. Is there a wife? How soon can she get back to her career and getting that promotion?
Totally predictable but you won’t care, this is a feel good Christmas story that has all the things you want: snow, elves, peppermint lattes, hot chocolate, zany family antics, love and of course, SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN📚
Santa Claus is Coming to Town by Cynthia Cooke: ***** Five Stars Nicole Flattery hasn’t been home in four years since she graduated college. She moved to Boston to build her career as an architect and she’s moving up the ladder to success. When her father, Frank, falls from a ladder putting up Christmas lights and breaks his leg and sprains his arm, Nicole packs up her files and heads home to assist her father.
Frank has been the town’s Santa since before Nicole was born and when he is unable to fulfill that obligation this year he talks his neighbor’s divorced son, Landry Parsons, into filling in for him. Landry’s six-year-old daughter, Kimmie, is beside herself with glee because she gets to be Santa’s elf. Nicole has lost her Christmas spirit over the years she has been away and worries about her dad’s sanity with his obsession about Christmas. Landry’s mother, Mary Margaret, has been taking the pictures since Nicole left for school and then work. However, this year her whole family is coming into town and she just can’t manage it. Against Nicole’s wishes but at her father insistence, she takes over the photo gig again. I call parents’ manipulation here, and I think you will too.
In the meantime, Kimmie vows to help Nicole find the Christmas magic she lost years ago. That’s a tall order for a six-year old but she is up to the challenge and of course the chemistry between her father and Nicole helps quite a bit. The twists in this novella aren’t surprising but things get tense and a bit unnerving. This is an endearing story about priorities, being truthful with oneself, and surrendering to passion. Santa Claus is Coming to Town will leave you with a smile on your face and a song in your heart.
FYI: “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” has a couple of sexual scenes not behind closed doors. I found no significant proofing issues. **Originally written for "BigAl’s Books and Pals" book blog. May have received a free review copy.** November 28, 2016
Absolutely loved this book. I read it as part of the Love, Christmas box set and it was one of my favs out of all of them. I don't know if it's because it's in the box set or if the actual book is the same but there were quite a few grammar errors, mainly just some misplaced quotation marks, but I got over that. The story is sweet and fun and I absolutely love the ending.
Nicole all work, boss counting on her to keep client happy and make the changes to cut their cost..From the stacks on her desk with the promise to her dad to be home for Christmas didn’t seem possible.A call and she is needed at home, her father broke his leg. Neighbor and his daughter will fill in this year as Santa and his elf. Wanting Nicole to take the photos of those visiting Santa. Kimmie on a mission to help spread the love of Christmas that Nicole seems to have lost. Would that be a family to love. Cute story to read anytime
A fun and sweet story set close to Christmas. I didn't much care for Nicole at first, but liked her better after she started to lighten up and enjoy her trip home. Interesting characters and some romance. Nicole's boss was a real jerk, had me thinking he would just keep using her and she would never get the promotion she wanted. It was good to see her come to her senses near the end.
Very cute Christmas story. When the boy next door kisses you then leaves and you leave to for college what happens when you both come back to your home town.
Nicole has been working for a promotion in a firm that she rarely goes home. She is a bah hum bug person. She is tired of the whole Christmas thing. Then she gets a call that her father is in the hospital from falling off a ladder. He was hanging Christmas lights on the house. She shudders going home. Small town all light up for the holidays. Enter Landry, the boy next door that is all grown up. He is the good guy. He lends a hand whenever anyone needs help. Landry is also the one she never got over. He won't let Nicole in to hurt him again. There is Landry's daughter, Kimmie to consider in all this. She loves everything about Christmas. The unthinkable happens. Nicole gets a call to come back to work to straighten some accounts. Everyone believes she will not return. A phone call and all that changes. Santa and Kimmie got what they wanted most for Christmas.
