Author Lily Andrews wrote in the Preface to this 1989 book, “I came to write this book because it needed to be written---or rather I needed to write it… When Theodore [her ‘entity’] suggested we write this book, the idea resonated not only with my desire to share information with others but my own need for clarification on this subject… the significant point here is that until my intuition developed fully, I was not in a position to discriminate clearly. I have allowed the material in this book and in others to come through me only because it fits intuitively with my own understanding of truth.”
In the first chapter, she explains, “Channeling is the means by which information is conveyed from a non-physical reality to a physical reality. It is accomplished through an individual, called a channel or a medium, who has this special capability… The more educated the channel is abut the subject being conveyed, the easier it is to bring forth the information accurately. It is very difficult, for instance, for a channel to deliver complex scientific, technological, or mathematical information without a matching knowledge base. Thus even very developed channels or mediums may be unable to convey highly specialized concepts if their understanding of the subject is limited. It is for this reason that those seeking to convey specialized information should seek out a medium who has an understanding of the material. Because mediums are fairly rare and their knowledge bases may be limited, there is much information of use to humanity that is waiting to be conveyed.” (Pg. 1-2)
She acknowledges, “This brings us to another important point: Because we make a mistake on occasion, does not invalidate all information we have to offer. We admittedly are not perfect, but much of what we have to offer is valuable and offered with care and wisdom. We hope to increase your ability to relate to us in a healthy manner by admitting our imperfections without having these imperfections be reason for totally disregarding what we have to say. It is, of course, up to you to accept or reject what we have to offer; but total acceptance and total rejection are simply two sides of the same coin of non-discrimination.” (Pg. 14)
She explains, “In the interest of education, let us look at a few of the favorite scams of some residents of the lower astral plane… In summary, the course of the first scam is basically this: These desperate beings establish trust by telling their victims what they already know about themselves and what they want to hear. This paves the way for acceptance of false information about past lives and the future, which their victims have no way of verifying, but which they will accept because the trust has been built… This sets the stage for one disappointment after another as they discover the trusted information about the future is not accurate or reliable. Nevertheless, this may not be enough for some to discontinue the relationship; instead, it only places it on a more confrontational ground… Most people in this situation are utterly shocked that anyone… could be so cruel and deceitful.” (Pg. 16, 18)
She adds, “We would be remiss if we did not include the limitations of the medium and the channeling process, for we are completely dependent upon the skills of the medium for getting our message across. Some distortion---even mistakes---occur from time to time that go uncorrected. For the most part, these distortions and mistakes are minor, and those that are not are corrected. Nevertheless, there is an element of unpredictability in this, and we must do our best to adjust to these mistakes… it is important for all to understand that this happens and that it is not a reason to distrust the entire message.” (Pg. 25)
She suggests, “If someone’s first experiences with channeling occur while using a Ouija board, they are more likely than not to communicate with lower astral beings than with any guides. The reason for this is that the presence of a Ouija board is a signal to those on the lower astral plane, that someone wants to talk, and those willing to oblige some rushing forward, leaving no room for the person’s guide, who will not usually assert his presence among the rest.” (Pg. 30) Later, she adds, “The stages leading up to full trance mediumship are several. Many first start channeling via automatic writing, which is a form of very early channeling. It is similar to the Ouija board in that it provides a tool to assist in channeling.” (Pg. 33)
She cautions, “Past life information requires particular caution, because it cannot be verified by the individual and it can easily be misused by the ego. Those who are told that they performed great deeds in a former life may react in the current life with arrogance or laziness, which can prevent them from living fully in the present. Similarly, if someone is told they must make amends for an error committed in the past, they may be immobilized by feelings of shame and hopelessness, which may jeopardize their lessons and life task.” (Pg. 36)
She observes, “The most common reason for wanting to channel is the desire for personal information. Yet, the potential for difficulties is always greatest when asking for information about yourself. It is difficult for even some of the best channels to receive reliable information about themselves, because their desires may distort the message. One is also far more vulnerable to flattery and manipulation with this type of information. All in all, it is best to avoid becoming overly involved in asking questions of a person a nature.” (Pg. 45)
She laments, “One of the greatest difficulties with channeling as it is today is the lack of credentialing for mediums. There is nothing to prevent an individual from claiming to be a channel and charging money for this. As you can well imagine, there are opportunists who take advantage of an unregulated business such as this. Frauds, pretending to be channels, are in the vast minority, however.” (Pg. 77)
She concludes, “We have tried to touch upon the various areas most likely to represent changes in the coming twenty or twenty-five years. For the most part, this is a general time frame, but we do see the next twenty-five years as a very important transition period in which many of your current problems will be set on fairly different courses. This is a time of great change, and times of great change require courage, fortitude, and a spiritual perspective. The spiritual perspective will be supplied by those like ourselves if asked, for we and others like us are available during these times of change for support and understanding. You are not alone.” (Pg. 109)
This frank overview of channeling will be of interest to those studying the subject.
