I've always written stories. I started out as a kid creating monster stories with a $5 typewriter from the early 1900's. Now I write novels: speculative fiction (SpecFic), crime fiction, or contemporary fiction according to whatever ideas occur to me. I live in Christchurch, New Zealand, about as far away from anywhere as it is possible to be. Earthquakes devastated the city in 2010 and 2011. They appear in my books. I've got a degree that I've never used and two diplomas, one in Hypnotherapy and the other in a subject I don't mention to anyone, as it was so long ago. I read widely: particularly SpecFic, YA, contemporary and non-fiction. My favourite author is Connie Willis, but I mostly read indie authors nowadays. I also enjoy copy-editing and proofreading other authors' manuscripts.
‘Best of Which Way Adventures’ is a delight. It makes perfect reading for active kids and for any adventurer of any age. You, yes YOU, the important person, are central to the story, making the choices, a welcome change. Although I have to admit that some of my choices didn’t work out too well. But at least I had the chance to try again and not float away into the wilder shores of outer space. You always get a second chance. Hmm....wish this could happen in real life.
There are five books to choose from as well. I even switched between them, mid adventure, for fun. In fact fun is the essence of this great idea which puts the reader at the centre of the story, no longer passive but active.
‘Deadline Delivery’ had a special meaning for me as I meet couriers every day, due to my job. Life can be extremely difficult for couriers and this adventure fully reflects this. It also has a social conscience, making great points about discrimination, slave labour and the corporate world. Without preaching.
In ‘Stranded Starship’ you can experience being a qualified space traveller and take a trip to the stars, although the space ship is... well it’s obviously stranded, but I won’t say any more. Join Ace on his first trip into space and see what happens.
‘Mystic Portal’ gets you on your bike and into a magical world. I thoroughly enjoyed imagining myself performing wild jumps on a bike, highly unlikely in real life unfortunately, but I can dream. And there are lots of fantastic choices.
‘Danger on Dolphin Island’ does feature dolphins but for me the big plus here is Jane. You have to join this adventure for the joy of meeting Jane. And experiencing her attitude. And the volcano. And the waterfall. And the treasure. All so much fun.
‘In the Magician’s House’ takes you on a mysterious adventure in a house filled with magic. I’d like to live here, permanently. At least I can keep on trying out different choices, developing my spell casting as I go.
Thank you ‘You Say Which Way’ Team for welcoming me into your books!
