A very interesting book, not least because Hickey started in English literature, was inspired by Ernst Mayr and a bunch of New York bird enthusiasts to move into ornithology, and wrote this book as part of his master's work under Aldo Leopold! Also interesting because it was meant to be read in one sitting, light and inspiring. Based on Nicholson's Art of Birdwatching, it did manage to inspire at least one person, a Mrs M.D.West in Dehra Dun to conduct censuses of birds - something which in turn inspired a young man named Dr Joseph George in the late 1940s who in turn inspired a generation of birdwatchers in Bangalore.
