„Hippo” is a non-fiction book by Caroline Arnold, with a series of beautiful photographs by Richard Hewett. In the book the photographs are quite big, and there is also quite a lot of text. When it comes to the text, its placement varies. One can observe that there are two layers of information, because all the information about the life of hippos are presented through the impressive photographs, as well as through the narration. Reading the book I had an impression of watching a nature film narrated by the most recognizable Polish lector of nature films, Krystyna Czubówna :)
Wow. There is a lot to know about hippos. I liked that they started with hippos at the zoo and moved on to hippos in the wild. The text follows hippos day to day life. It gives a good up close view of hippo lives.
Nice combination of telling fact about hippos by using a mother and her son from the San Francisco Zoo as well as hippos in their natural habitat. Actual photographs made the book more interesting.
