The Button Box is a story about family and is a metaphor for life experience. The magic of the button box is real. Every family has sentimental items and stories around which their memories are made. This story is about a family button box and the lessons learned from it during quiet special times between a mother and child. This book will make you think of your family and the memories you treasure the most. The Button Box is a book for people of all ages. It's for children to learn about the importance of treating all people with respect and to value the differences between people. It's also a story to treasure for anyone who grew up with a family button box and remembers the magic and fun of looking through it and touching and sorting the buttons with family members. Share it with the children in your lives and share it with your family members and friends.
Janet Sever Hull grew up in Elkhart, Indiana and is a graduate of Purdue University. She has been writing since the age of 16 and is the author of many stories. She credits her high school English teacher, Janice Dean, with both pushing her and encouraging her to always strive to write better!
Her first book, “The Button Box” was published in 2014 and was a finalist in the 2016 national Best Book Awards. Janet's second book, “Which Came First?” was published in 2016 and was named the "Best Children's Book" at the 2017 North Texas Book Festival. Her third book, “The Day the Turkey Went to School” was published in late 2017 and also won "Best Children's Book" at the 2018 North Texas Book Festival.
In the fall of 2017, Janet published her first e-Book, "Coffee Without a Cup" a story about love, loss and healing. The idea for the story was inspired by the loss of her grandfather, followed by the tragic loss of her younger brother several years later. During the time of grieving her loved ones, Janet turned to writing to share her grief journey and to help others find love and hope on the other side of their own journeys.
In 2020 when the world shut down due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Janet began work on "The Christmas Church" which was written during the time when so many were losing loved ones. "The Christmas Church" is a holiday story for adults about the enduring quality of love and what people leave with us after they are gone. During this same period of time, Janet wrote the very fun and not at all scary book, "The Halloween Scare". "The Halloween Scare" is a fun look at what would scare the spooky characters of Halloween who normally do the scaring! Both books were published in 2021.
"Love Hearts" is Janet's most recent book. It was published in 2023 and is for the younger crowd, ages 1-6. "Love Hearts" is about the people we love in our lives, (including the dog people) and those who love us. While it was intended to be a book about love year round, it has quickly become a Valentine's Day favorite.
Janet lives in Fishers, Indiana and when she isn’t writing, she enjoys gardening, reading, cooking, swimming and being with her grandchildren.
What a great story that shares a wonderful message as well as special stories and history on buttons. Made me search out my husband's grandmother's button box. Excellent book to share with children and then afterwards do a craft using buttons.
