I was properly surprised when I reserved this book from my state library and then picked it up to discover it had the dimensions of a picture book lmfao. I cited this in my thesis and wanted to read it cover to cover but had only read the electronic text for my purposes.... Anyway this was a really strong examination of wartime media, the mere fact of having to read all those magazine issues kind of boggles the mind, these guys must have had a killer organisational system. Loved all the contemporary excerpts -- wondered while reading about the having a distinct "aim" or "thesis" in your (nonfiction) writing that you're trying to prove vs. trying to paint a more expansive picture and leaving your audience to draw their own conclusions. This def falls towards the latter but I think either way works as long as you're interested in the subject.
Picked up a secondhand copy in Hay on Wye. Items on British magazine articles published in the WW2 home front years. A useful primary source research tool when writing fiction set in the period.
