Unlike his father and brother, twelve-year-old Mike cannot endure hunting animals with a gun but discovers accidentally that he can hunt them more effectively with a camera.
I blame this book for my terrible fear of bears. I read it when I was about 9 years old (um, 1972?) and I've been scared -- nay, phobic -- of bears ever since. IIRC it was well written, but the terror the central character feels when trapped on a small island off the Alaskan coast with a wounded grizzly stalking him has stayed with me.
