This book provides a critical analysis of the vocational initiatives that have been developed over the last dozen years, focusing particularly on the 14-19 age group. It takes a close look at the work-related curriculum and at the notion that education and schooling should somehow be related to the world of work and the needs of employers. It concentrates on some of the initiatives of the 80s and 90s, look at how they related and whether they have been planned. It goes on to ask, can education meet the needs of industry? Can employers needs be determined and how? And what is the significance of information technology? Finally the author looks at how education should respond to changing patterns in industry in the future.
