School Girl (Blues) - a review by Rosemary Kenny

The novelette (only 55 pages) seems to have two titles, School Girl and School Girl Blues, which threw me a little when looking for the novelette to review it!
Nevertheless, I'm glad I persisted in my search, as though tiny, School Girl (Blues) is as gripping and dramatic as many books three times longer, making it worthy of extending (or maybe making a 3-in-one compendium with others in the Garbage Collector series), as all are extremely brief and more like extended chapters, in my humble opinion.
Basically, the plot centres round the so-called Garbage Collector being hired to solve the mysterious disappearance of one of his new clients' twin nieces and find/deal with the person responsible for the imprisonment of Casey, whose sister's remains were found when a semi-derelict former schoolhouse, being moved to a lakeside site, gave up its 6-month-old secret and shocked all involved. The inimitable 'Garbage Collector' has his own means of proceeding and the suspect is one you'd never expect!
Read it yourself, it's another 5-star winner for the prolific and talented Dan Ames - and you'd be mad to miss it!

I keep on reading and enjoying these. School Girl by Dan Ames is another quick read by this master of pulp and hard boiled noir. This time it's all about finding a missing school girl. Her sister was found murdered when they tried to move an old school. Where is the missing sister and who is responsible. Great short story.

Still trying to figure out if I prefer the Garbage Collector by Dani Amour or Dan Ames.

The Garbage Collector series are just really great playful romps into the fetid bogs of the author's mind. This particular one, School Girl, has the paladin (look it up) involved with pepermint, steak, oatmeal and a level of depravity that Reacher has seen but once.

Ames/Amour writes these novellas taut; yet the the similes and metaphors allow one's imagination to fill in a lot of the blanks and color the landscape in hues of one's choosing. I big on verisimilitude... Ames/Amour delivers.

One interesting note...Garbie seems to be a bit more mellow in this book. Not hitting the Heineken bottles quite so much. And there is always the question I have...did this fine trigger-puller ever cross paths with John Wick at the Continental? Or maybe was attached to the 11oth MP Company back in the day? Some real similarities there.

Don'get just this book...get all three...fun reads, all of them...

School Girl. Dan Ames

Two sisters in Michigan are missing. Ones body has been found when escavating a rural school house. The odor of peppermint mints becomes a strong clue. The suspect is obviously someone known to both of the girls. This is a fast paced novella. Excellent read!

The third in the Garbage Collector series, not sure if it is too long to be a short story or too short to be a novella.

Hired by people who need results and don’t care what has to be done to achieve them. Someone has to take out the trash and the garbage collector gets the job done.

"Hidden in the Cellar"

Predators are entwined in our society at every level. The effect that they have on society is both traumatic and scary. This story gives you some background of how they are able to get away with horrific horrors both mentally and physically;
that they use to seduce their captives. This is a moving go get them private eye type of lawman. He's not afraid of the type of persons he must face to get answers to and make decisions of how to achieve his aim. You'll enjoy reading this crime story. It's short and to the point and your never
left out of the loop.
