This book was a terrible disappointment. I rated it 2 stars only because I love George Strait, and I learned a bit more about him. It was, however, painful to read. It should have been proofread by anyone with at least a mediocre knowledge of grammar and punctuation. Although I understand the concept of poetic license, this was not it. When I read a book, I don't want to be required to interpret what the author is trying to write; I want to read, rather than go through the mental gymnastics of a re-write.
The book was also annoyingly redundant. The readers didn't need to be told more than a couple of times that George is shy, moral, faithful, and a good horseman. Also, George was described as surly (sic) (which he is obviously not). That is just one of the far too numerous typos that appear in this book.
What is clear is that the author cares deeply for George Strait. It would have been a much better tribute to George and his music had the book been better written and proofed.
TOO REPETITIVE! ! FIRST 4 CHAPTERS ARE OKAY...very Little ok!....all downhill from there!!
This author manager to stretch an article into a repeat of itself, for the rest of the book!! Nothing you can't read on the cover of a cheap magazine at the grocery checkout!! Once he wrote how George Strait's career and the Ace in the Hole Band, you had it all!!! Very, VERY disappointing and I wasted money on the repeats of the repeats!! Not even an easy read! Don't waste your money when you can Google it Wiki absolutely everything this author attempted to reshape!! Said, did, done deal! Your privacy is intact, Mr. Strait!!
I've been a George Strait from the beginning back in the 80s. This wasn't an in depth book about George Strait. The main point the author kept making was how great George is. I agree but it seemed every other page the author wrote a paragraph pertaining to George's greatness. I also noticed a few grammar mistakes. I was surprised since the author has written other books. Still it was a good book to read. I had forgot how Buddy died. I had read somewhere that George's mother wasn't in his life so it was interesting to find out more about that. If you're a George Strait fan, it's a book to add to your collection.
This book rambled, repeated and lacked any sort of insight on George Strait. Grammar was below average, as if the proof reader fell asleep. Was hoping to at least see pictures, but only a few small black and whites in middle of the book.
This book rambled, repeated itself frequently, and lacked any sort of insight on George Strait. Grammar was troublesome, making me wonder if the proof reader fell asleep. Hoped to at least see pictures, but there were only a few black and whites in the center of this book. Use a search engine, you'll get more information!
The good part of this book is that the author comes from the same area south of San Antonio that George Strait came from and the played some of the same venues in the 70s. George Strait is a very private person and most people close to him help him keep his life that way. The author is obviously a fan of George but the book struggles with organization and editing. The book tends to ramble and repeat itself.
George Strait is a favorite! I hope he will write his own book in the future. That would be ideal! For as great of a guy as George is, sadly, this book could have been written so much better. There were things that were said multiple times and it rambled in places. This book really needed several proof reads before it was printed. I’m still a George fan!
This book was a Kindle Unlimited pick. It was listed as new, but was written 10 to 14 years ago. Much of the book was about the names of band members going back before George became popular. The only thing I learned was that Georges mother left the family when he was 9 years old.
Love George Straight, hated this book. Decent editing would have made this 2 stars. This is basically just a fan biography with very basic information about the life and career of Strait. Also, if the author could tone down his love affair with Strait I could have enjoyed it more. At least it was a quick read.
This book is about a truly great country music star, but sadly reads like it was written by a high school student....I gave up after reading half of it...
A decent book, but the author definitely repeats themselves a lot. I love George Strait. I did learn a couple of new things. I just think with all the repeating it made it feel like the book could have been a lot shorter than it is.
