Very good reference for anyone wanting to get a sense of the 380 colleges described here. Many interesting lists (best & worst of...) based on surveys of 136,000 students attending the 380 schools. Additional information is provided by school administrators and interviews of students at the various campuses. (Sidebar information provides statistics under the general categories of Campus Life, Students, Survey Says..., Academics, Selectivity, Freshman Profile, Deadlines, Applicants Also Look At (i.e. other schools applied to) and Financial Facts.)

The many good statistics and personal snapshots of the schools provide a helpful primer to start the school search list. This isn’t a book about preparing the college application process, very little attention is given to what steps should be taken while in high school. This is more about telling you a lot about the various colleges detailed in the book.

Whether the prospective student is or isn’t focused on any particular schools this book is well worth a look. Most libraries in my area have the latest or prior year edition so I’d check there before looking for it on Amazon.

This is a weird book to have read, I know. I'm in the process of figuring out what college I want to attend, so I read this entire book, cover to cover. I usually wouldn't include this as a book I've read on goodreads, but since it took up 2 months of reading for me I figured that I should. I also have 5 books left to read in this year, with only about 10 days to go, so I need all the help I can get. This is also 800ish pages so I figure it counts! Also, this was such an informative book, I was surprised with how easy it was to comprehend and how much I liked the information provided about each school.
