Wrapped Up in a Weeping Willow

Rate this book
When famous sex talk radio host Poppy Bailey returns home to Hudson Hollow, Kentucky, she planned on taking a little rest and getting out of town after her big melt down and on-air fiasco. But it seems that things have changed on the home front: her grandfather has dementia, their family farm house is on the market, and her high school sweetheart Brett Barrett, still looking as hot as ever, is the last thing she needs to complicate her life, especially since the ink on her divorce papers is still wet.
No matter how much Poppy and Brett try to stay away from each other, they can’t deny the chemistry between them and continue to find themselves wrapped up in each other’s arms. After all, it’s just a quick fling. At least that’s what they tell themselves in order to keep their hearts guarded and other secrets buried. When the secrets are revealed, is their new bond strong enough to keep Poppy in Hudson Hollow? Or will she once again flee town leaving Brett’s heart in the wake of her dust once again?

I have enjoyed books written by Tonya Kappes ever since I discovered her a few years ago. Most of the books were in the cozy mystery genre. This is one of her romances. I’m happy to say her romance books share a lot with her cozy mysteries. They are a bit hotter though.
This book took me back to the hollar and my grandmaw’s house. I knew exactly how Poppy felt when she rolled up to Coach’s house. There is no better place to heal a bruised heart than a place so filled with love. I love Poppy. Her heart was golden even as it crashed and burned. Returning home after catching her soon to be ex with his pants off was the best thing she could have done. There is an abundance of humor, love and support in this book. The drama, (the “great jockey incident,” as I like to think of it, is sure to bring laughter that makes you cry), pain, regret and sorrow are all there, too, making this a romance book that takes you through every emotion. I adored Coach from the moment he broke Poppy out of the hospital. My momma has Alzheimer’s so I could relate to Poppy’s feelings about him. That is an illness that robs not just the person who has it. It steals from everyone who loves them. Other unforgettable characters are Elizabeth and Lily, the besties everyone needs, and Brett and Sadie. Oh and there is a cat who has kittens. I love a story with pets. The cat in this one does exactly what I think cats tend to do. They know when someone needs their healing love and they just show up.
A word to my review readers, some of whom I know want this information. There are some errors. I kept going because I invested so totally, easily, and early into the story. I was able to forgive them. This is an early book from this author so I don’t know if she wants to revisit it. She is fairly busy with writing cozy mysteries, which I urge you to check out. Those are just as fun. I think the story is worth looking past those small errors and reading. It will make you laugh and shed a few tears. If you have a bruised heart it has some healing balm for it.
It is a quick book to read. There is so much going on that will keep you turning pages. It took me a bit longer as I was ill and taking medication that gave me side effects. I kept returning every chance I had to read a bit more. Yes, it was that good. Read the book and enjoy all the feels.

Beautiful

This book made me want to cry and cheer at the same time. The characters were a big part but all in all it was the love written in this book

Back where She started and sweet

Harper is back where she started as life falls apart around her. That tends to happen with cheating husbands. Everything she did to escape her old life comes roaring back since her granddad is the one who rescues her.

It is sweet, nostalgic and painful to watch Harper return to bring her authentic self as Poppy, her southern self. I’m glad she has the support of her childhood friends and family and as Poppy, she eventually confronts that rat yahoo narcissist hubby in an unexpected confrontation. The author excels in wonderful character relationships of depth and warmth.

If you are new to this writer, truly recommend her - Tonya Kappes books are delightful! (Particular favs of mine are her cozy mystery series killer coffee, campers and criminals (just two of many) which is one of my fav genres and found them quite enjoyable).

The surprise ending is lovely and sweet, and the book is an absolutely worthwhile read.

I really like this book!! It is so well written.
The old adage is true; bad things happen to good people. But often when those bad things happen later on in life you realize it was the best thing that could happen to you. Poppy’s whole life is turned upside down and crushed around her. And she slowly finds her way back to who she really is and what she really wants.
I love it!! Yea Ms Kappe you are such a good writer and storyteller!!

An amazing book

This book surprised me from the very first sentences. Mrs. Kappes has crafted a book that is more realistic than any Cozy I have read. There is a mystery to be sure; but it is secondary throughout most of the story. Real life topics are covered in such a way that you just have to keep reading and cheering on the people of Hudson Hollow. Do not shy away from reading this story. It is a wonderful story of coming home and discovering the true meaning of home.

You must read this awesome book.

The story of Poppy Bailey(Harper Ellington) starts out with lots of crazy. But as the story progresses it touched my heart. I don't know how many times I teared up but it was worth it. I need a weeping willow once in a while.

Tonya Kappes has written a moving novel in women's fiction, instead of the cozy genre. Though it made me cry and blew my emotions to and fro, I loved it!

Kappes makes the jump from Cozies to Women's Fiction in this lovely novel. Famous sex talk show host kinda loses it - on air - about her husband's infidelity and is sent to an institution. Her grandfather breaks her out and takes her home. Can she find who she is now, who she wants to be AND escape the humiliation AND criminal charges that her husband and his "girlfriend" have had her charged with? If you like Women's Fiction, this book is for you!!

Another winner from Tonya Kappes! Her first non-mystery book that I have read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Great, believable characters, loathsome villain, wonderful family/friends relationships. Reading her books always feels like coming home to me.

I thoroughly enjoyed it.

"Wrapped Up In A Weeping Willow" was exactly what I expected from Tonya Kappes. A lot of southern charm with a bit of sass. As usual there is a bit of mystery, a bit of romance, and an overall feel good story line. This was a great story to cozy up to on a cold winter night.
