I invite my readers to have fun with the process and to trust that their answers will come--they always do. Whether you're looking for a way to re-frame negative self-talk, or stress management for teens, Really Good F Words will help you with ideas for both individual and group activities."

In the recent past, 'the F word' has been used widely as a phrase to denote an offensive and rude word. While the word itself is used more often that it was a few years ago, to denote a varied list of feelings and emotions, there can be no doubt in anyone's minds that the moment they read the phrase 'F word', their mind automatically goes to that one word. So did my mind. But in making me think about 'really good F words', the author has indirectly showed me just how quickly I, like many people, jump to conclusions and assume things without information. I knew that the title was a play on words. But before I began reading the book, I tried naming a few 'F words' that were not offensive. And yes, I came up with only a very few, with 'Food' topping the list.

And then I began reading the book. I do not want to reveal what exactly the 'Really Good F Words' are, but they are surely words we should think of more often. The book had me at the beginning 'Doing the Groundwork' chapter. Yes, the title did get my attention. But this is not the self help book that I would open, read, get enlightened by and close and get on with my life. This felt more like it was intended as a work book of sorts where the readers could jot down thoughts, notes, goals and lists. While this was a really good way to get people involved, I personally found it a bit comical to write everything down. (It was a 'feeling' I got over by the time I was nearing the middle of the book, though. It started sounding 'fun'.)

As to the other aspects, the cover is a warm blue and interesting enough. The author has tried to inject humour into the book and has obviously decided laughter works better in getting the reader involved. I enjoyed the experience as a whole. The language was simple, though very attractive. Special mention must be given for the little boxes where important points, stories and other things were highlighted. The font and the content of these boxes were something I looked forward to. Overall, I liked the approach the book had taken and also the practical but inspirational real life events. The book was so similar yet so unique when compared to other books of this genre.

WHAT I LIKED:
The Title
The Author's approach to writing
The little boxes with notes.
WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER:
This book won't interest you if you are not a fan of this genre. This is not for every casual reader
VERDICT:

If you are on the lookout for a funny, clean self help book that could get you out of your dull routine and get you working in a new direction, this book might just be the thing you need.

This non-fiction self-help book is aptly titled. It is truly an interactive guide, much like a workbook that you can use with a pen and highlighter, jotting down your personal thoughts and answering questions as life coach Lorrie Forde guides you along.

Self-awareness is so important and I learned this as I fought my post-partum depression after the birth of my second child. It takes a long time to learn how to push those negative, destructive thoughts away and replace them with positive ones. Forde shows you it's possible. But you need to give yourself the possibility to think things through even when you would rather escape or accept that you just can't do what you dream in life. And this is what this book does; giving you the chance in a step-by-step approach to uncover your own customized strategies to move forward successfully in life.

It's clear that Forde wants to help people because this book is written as if a coach were guiding you, encouraging you along with good solid reasoning, inspiring quotes and sharing the stories of others who have learned the tools to get past internal and external barriers.

When I read on p. 39 Forde's mantra that "The best thing about a mind is that it can change," I knew this book was a gem. All my research on neuroplasticity says precisely the same thing and so does the Bible in Romans 12: 12, "...be transformed by making your mind over."

But apart from this, Forde's enthusiasm and joy for life comes through beautifully. Really good f-words, such as fun, family and friends are in bold throughout the text and subconsciously we assimilate them as we read. What a neat way to make us focus on these positive words!

This is a book that is not meant to just be read. It is meant to move you to action, to get you to think and ponder on how you deal with self talk and barriers that keep you stuck. It will help you develop self-awareness which is key to change. It's a book that can be referred to periodically especially during times in our lives when we experience life-changing events that we have a hard time coping with.

I'm currently using this book and I will continue to use it. I think it is an excellent guide for anyone suffering from depression, anxiety, self-doubt and inflicted self-guilt. Sound familiar? Give yourself a break and start truly taking care of YOU by looking inward. You are not alone.

Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of Really Good F Words: Your Interactive Guide to Self-Care by Lorrie Forde in exchange for an honest review.

It is my pleasure to have an opportunity to read and review Really Good F Words by Lorrie Forde.

Ms. Forde presented a challenge to my regimented world right away by asking that I allow myself to write in a book. I am most happy to keep a notebook separate from my “study guides” but in my more than half century of living, I haven’t been able to bring myself to write in them. I realize this may be a block that I need further work on.

Reading Really Good F Words has given me another tool to work from a place of darkness and fear to a place of fearlessness and fulfillment along with a close group of friends that I’ve learned to trust.

I don’t think I’ve been taking the time to realize how much I give away without filling up. I’m looking forward to introducing Really Good F Words to my friends and encouraging a group study!

I recommend Really Good F Words by Lorrie Forde to anyone looking to turn further in to a positive, fulfilled lifestyle!

I give Really Good F Words four cups of froth-filled Room With Books coffee.

As with any resource, you will get out of this book what you put into it. I received a copy of this book to facilitate a review on my website. There were two things that affirmed this book and I were going to work out well together. Flipping through it, the first sentence my eyes landed on was: "Self-care is not selfish. It is a healthy practice and essential to our ability to care for those around us." YES! This is something I am constantly sharing within my community. Delving into something that aligns so well with one of my core values is a great feeling. Second, the author relates self-care to cookies. I'm all the way down for that! My sweet-tooth rejoiced and my inner Cookie Monster said "Yum! Me wants all the cookies!"

In all seriousness, Really Good F Words is truly an interactive guide. There are stories we can all relate to from the author and her clients' personal experiences, fill-in-the blank questions that get you to really reflect on your feelings and actions when it comes to self-care and personal notes from the author to give additional insight and encouragement. This is definitely a book that I will continue to work through and share with others.

I decided to read Really Good F Words because the title caught my attention, because it's a self-care book, and also because you can write on the pages. I thought writing on the pages would be fun but even though there are plenty of lines to write in I couldn't do it. I have a small notebook that I like to use to make notes in sometimes when I'm reading a book and I prefer to write in my notebook than on a book.

What I enjoyed most was reading the personal stories and all the quotes. I had to think about my answers to every single question but it's great when books really get you thinking. I didn't care for the group activities so I haven't done any. The good F words were repeated over and over so I think I know them now. Overall this book was okay and sometimes funny. The cookie analogy was a little confusing though because I just kept picturing chocolate chip cookies and it wasn't helping much....or was I supposed to just picture cookies. This book made me want cookies! But cookies are part of my self-care so I guess that's a good thing... I give this book 3 stars.

I received this book for free to review.

That title got your attention didn’t it? In this case, the “F” words are good ones. The author does a wonderful job of showing how important, and easy, it is to be happier. Not only is this a self-help book, it’s also a workbook where you can write (gasp!) in the book to keep track of your progress. I had the PDF version and transferred it to my Kindle, so I used a piece of paper. Good thing since I don’t know if I could have written in the book.

There are many different ways in the book to help you become more fulfilled, one of which is to join or start a support group that focuses on being positive.

I think this is a great book for anyone who wants to be more content with their life. With the author guiding you in this journey, it’s like having your own personal self-help coach.

I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who wants to work on making you a priority in your life, and being a more content person.

The first thing you normally think of when you hear f-words is f**k, but thins book reinvents the meaning from a bad word to inspirational words. This book is truly a life coach for those wishing to learn about self care and on how to treat themselves better. This book truly inspired me to give some of the techniques a shot. I particularly liked that the book was interactive.
