Rate this book
Mark Mulvaney's life in Northeast Tennessee is about to be completely disrupted. An accidental meeting with a girl he irreverently calls Spooky Sue (who gets under his skin like poison ivy) rapidly snowballs into a peculiar relationship.

The synchronistic connection between Mark and Sue becomes even weirder after Papaw Eldred Mulvaney shares a secret with his accident-prone grandson. A mystifying number of coincidences lead Mark on adventures of life-altering magnitude.

Mark unexpectedly realizes the other voices in the universe are attempting to be heard.

This book had a lot of surprises in it for me, it was not at all what I was expecting for a young reader's book, as many of the concepts introduced were what I would consider to be advanced. What seemed to start as an adventure in moving and adjusting to a new sibling for a boy and his dog, became a foray into the concepts of alien life and their influence on the inhabitants of this planet. So if you are intrigued by the "indigo children" of recent speculative and alternative beliefs; wonder if there is alien life that has visited us and how these two things might intersect - then enjoy this book. I enjoy anything that has me guessing about where it is going and what the bigger picture is. :-) I do consider this paranormal scifi though, not necessarily a middle school level reading.
