Motor-Mix a lifeboat, highway patrol car, and snowplow to create an emergency vehicle unlike any other. Young readers will delight in mixing and matching their favorite vehicles and then reading the funny sounds and sentences that result, making for a playful, interactive bonding experience.
Emily Snape is a passionate author, educator and mum. Her journey in understanding ADHD started when her son began the process of receiving his ADHD diagnosis. She now regularly works with young people celebrating and supporting their amazing, creative neurodivergent minds.
Here is the companion book to Motor Mix: Flight, though this one focuses on emergency vehicles, many of which even the youngest readers might be familiar with. Kids can go for a ride, with appropriate vehicle noises, on a firetruck, a highway patrol car, a snowplow, a tow truck, a ambulance, a lifeboat, and a helicopter. Or, they can invent their own, by flipping the divided parts of the right side page over the stationary illustration on the left facing page. This concept book offers a fun way for kids to learn the names of vehicles that help people, and is sure to generate questions about how they work. With simple, bold illustrations in bright colors and diverse characters.
Snape, Emily. Motor Mix: Flight OR Motor Mix: Emergency, BOARD BOOK. Chronicle Books, 2017. $9.99.
These board books are split into three sections as the reader turns the pages. The section at the top tells about what the vehicle is doing (e.g. “I am launching”). The middle section demonstrates the sound the vehicle makes (e.g. Roar, zoom). The bottom section describes where the vehicle is moving (e.g. “into outer space”). As the reader turns each section, to fully form the next vehicle picture on the following page, they can also choose to mix up the different sections to make new, crazy looking transportation.
These are really cool books. The interactive feature that lets kids move the portions around is really different and the various types of vehicles are some that are not as well known. It is a great one to read one on one with a child so that you can explain what the different vehicles are, but also a fun one for them to look at on their own. They may not be a great purchase for a school library, as they could get worn out quickly, but they are awesome.
Fun toddler board book with movable parts to mix-n-match three portions of each page. Filled with onomatopoeia, children will have fun creating their own transportation.
Great board book that fosters imagination and play. Love the illustrations and the diversity of kids driving different vehicles. Love the way it encourages kids to actively engage with this book.
