Juliette's Angel: Death Desire Destiny

Rate this book
As a child, I knew three things for sure:
I had an angel
I loved my family
My mother was about to die.

'Stay strong, ' my father said on the morning of my mother's death.
So I did.
What I didn't know was that my mother's suicide would spark a chain of events that would shadow my life. Ultimately, blind faith drove me to the ends of the earth searching for proof.

Juliette and her daughter Bonnie leave their men and jobs in Australia and fly to Kathmandu to meet a guide they found on the internet. He leads them on a trek to the top of the world. But Mount Everest is as dangerous as it is magnificent, and Juliette's world comes crashing down when she discovers she's not as strong as she thought.

Juliette confronts her grief and her own mortality before realising her destiny in the fiery, frozen wilderness of Iceland.

What if staying strong isn't the answer?
All her life, people called her a dreamer. All her life she sought heaven. All her life she threw her wishes to the sky. But they say be careful what you wish for.

Where do we go when we die?

What if you asked God that question?

What if He replied?

Provocatively funny, naIve, romantic, and distinctly Australian, Juliette's Angel is a mystical memoir grounded by heartbreak and self-realisation. A true story well told.

After her mother’s tragic suicide, young Juliette dropped out of high school, ran away from her Melbourne housing commission home, and changed her name to an actress off a soapie.

A factory worker by day, Juliette never dreamed of writing a book, let alone three. But her adventurous spirit and extraordinary, often other-worldly experiences on her quest to face her grief and seek proof of heaven drove her on.

Trekking Mount Everest sparked Juliette’s World Memoir Trilogy, with book 1: Juliette’s Angel: Death Desire Destiny. With her life reflecting a Hollywood movie, Juliette couldn’t deny writing her story.
She lives among the gumtrees with her hunk-of-spunk, Johnny, in Brisbane Australia, and divides her time between adventures and reality while writing her second memoir, Castaway Great Barrier Reef.
When not surviving storms on deserted islands or struggling to breathe on the world’s tallest peaks, Juliette can be found online. Email Juliette now for more details: juliettepowerauthor@gmail.com

Juliette's Angel is a true blue Aussie story. Juliette's recollection of her teenage years paints a vivid picture of carefree days in Australia in the 70's and 80's. I would recommend anyone trekking to Nepal read Juliette's Angel as a must read insiders guide.

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. I have a personal interest in the topic having a Nepalese trek planned plus I live in Juliette's home town, and so read it eagerly. At first I thought it would be a step by step journey of discovery of the majestic beauty of the Himalayas and if that were so, I would have loved this book anyway, but it is more than that, far more! It tells of our quest to find meaning through life, death, and birth through the rollercoaster of personal relationships. It tells of faith and the discovery of strength of self. It tells of love, life, laughter and loss. Most of all, it is the story of the Nepalese who are rebuilding their country back from the devastating recent earthquake, and of the real modern day Sherpa Angels such as Pratap, Ang and Som. Discover how Angels can both be unseen, but also be in disguise with packs on their backs. I absolutely love this book! Nepal desperately needs tourists! Please read this book and consider travelling there.

Growing up in Melbourne suburbia in Australia in the halcyon days of the 70s, Juliette's childhood is dramatically cut short by a tragic event. 40 years and 10,000 kms later, Juliette embarks on an epic journey which inadvertently becomes a spiritual journey where the past and the present collide. Juliette is compelled to confront her 11 year old self and finally come to terms with her past and how it has shaped her life. Overcoming a traumatic beginning to form a meaningful and fulfilling life is testament to Juliette's courage and strength of character. A must read.

This is one of the most beautiful books I've ever read. I laughed, I cried, I wondered, then laughed and cried again. There is so so much healing in this book and it touches you where it hurts. If you are a woman, if you have lost someone, if you have maternal hurt to heal, you need to read this absolute treasure of a book. Juliette, thank you so so much. I don't have the words. Just gratitude and tears. I'm gonna get this for my girlfriends.

I generally enjoyed this and found I had a lot to relate to as I had just returned from trekking in Nepal, and am around the same age as Juliette was when this story was set. I found it at times anticlimactic as it seemed that tension would build for a big surprise or drama and then there wouldn't really be one. Other than this I appreciated the amazing story Juliette has to tell about her life and her choices, in some ways just like anyone else and it other ways, pushing the envelope and doing things her way.

Wow!!! Thank you Juliette for taking me on your journey of adventure, drama, romance and spirituality. How incredibly talented to whisk me along on your roller coaster ride of heartbreak and despair and then to elevate me to your new found strengths and beliefs. What a woman!
This is Juliette's life of raw truths, discovery and above all, grounding.
I enjoyed not only Juliette's journey but also the poetic language used throughout the book. Many paragraphs I re-read in order to absorb the beauty of her words. I was reluctant to finish the book........it meant that was the end, even knowing this is book 1 of a trilogy.
Once again, thank you Juliette and thank you for your commitment in writing this book. I look forward to following your journey........
