The story is about two people having different Tamie Lao and Miaka Ang. Tamie Lao is a 30 year old man who works as a marine engineer. He was born in Rhode Island, a very small place in America that only holds only about 3,000 people. Because there is a war happening in Vietnam, he was assigned to automate ships that will deliver canyons, guns, bullets, and even medicine into the army. He sailed all the way to Vietnam together with seamen and General John, friend of his father. Little did he know he is about to meet Miaka, the Chinese girl who will change his life.
Miaka Ang is a volunteered foster who helps injured and wounded Chinese and American soldiers. She travels from town to town to offer exceptional care and medicine. Miaka is 25 years old. Her father, Chen, was a retired soldier while her mother owns a small bakery. Miaka has two 9 year old nieces that are twins; daughters of her brother who was a soldier as well and died in war. Because of the economic status in Vietnam, more people are becoming poorer. War destructs the place so nothing has yet established. Miaka needs to work for her country and to provide the needs of her family since her mom doesn’t make so much money and her father has already stop going to the army and just received pensions.
They are two people having different lives, purpose and culture. Destiny will bring them together. Soon, they will fall in love and they will have to decide about the circumstances they have to endure to be together. The story is about finding sempiternal love in the most unexpected way. Is love enough for them to fight for each other? Will she decides to marry him despite her obligations to her country and to her family? Or will she leave him despite the knowledge that she couldn’t live without him?
Both of them knows they can’t be together because Miaka has duties in her land.. But is this all? Is she not hiding something from Tamie? Is something bothering her and why didn’t she even tell him on the first place?
