After the Miracle: The Cody Parmer Story

Rate this book
In the summer of 1999, doctors raced against the clock to save Cody Parmer’s life after a terrible car accident on a rural Idaho road. His parents, Brenda and Kreg Parmer, prayed that God would save him, and received their miracle. Months after his recovery, a mysterious new discovery threatened to take Cody’s life once more, but this time the doctors couldn’t fix it.

As Cody fought for his life, his mother searched for answers. Why would God let this happen? Would God save her son, just to let him die a short time later? Even if Cody lived, could the family handle his injuries and limitations?

Even after receiving a miracle, the strength to accept God’s will would be the greatest blessing they could ever ask for.

The book had me riveted, I couldn’t put it down! As a mother, it broke my heart to hear the kinds of things that this family had to go through, but it gave me hope that I could survive something that horrific as well. I’m impressed by their strength, and it made me not worry so much about my own trivial problems. I would totally recommend this book, it will make you cry, but it’s worth it!

I thought this was a great book. It was so well written. I felt like I was right there with the family as they went through it. As a mom, I easily felt the emotions the mom was expressing. What an amazing story. They are a great example of strong Faith. It makes me want to try harder to develop my Faith and I will try not to take my family for granted.

"...some people still have a hard time believing in God, but not me, I know He is real. I've seen too many miracles and had too many answered prayers to say otherwise." -Cody Parmer

Growing up in the same town and being about the same age as Cody, I was familiar with his story already. But I so enjoyed reading this account from his mother's perspective. It is a powerful story of exercising faith through adversity and how God is very much aware of us individually. It was so touching to learn about the details and miracles from their experience and my faith was strengthened by reading it. While it is obviously intended for a Mormon audience, it was real and raw and captivating. My eyes filled with tears on many occasions.

I thought this was a wonderful read and was surprised by how well written it was. I highly recommend reading this book.

Cody's story is impressive, but this is really the story of the whole family. A mother who was faced with losing her son, a father who was trying to hold his family together through the worst trials they'd ever faced, younger sisters who had to sit by and watch their older brother lie helplessly in a hospital bed, and a community that rallied around him and his family.

My wife cried when she read this book, she related to the mother's point of view, but I was intrigued by the medical drama and the terrible turns the story kept taking. By the end I was emotionally invested too, and was so glad that the family finally found peace, even though the miracle they got wasn't exactly what they had been hoping for.

This book is a quick read, but the story is truly impressive. My hat goes off to the Parmer family for how they have handled the tragedies and trials they faced.

Great read that kept me captivated and interested. At times I felt like I could be in the shoes of the author and feel exactly what she was going through. Sometimes true stories can drag on, but this kept me wondering until the end how things were going to work out. It was also very positive and optimistic despite the struggles and challenges that were faced. It was very faith building and has encouraged me to look at trials in a more enlightening way as well as individuals whom we may not realize are facing such trials, in a different way.

This book was an inspiring read. Very well written, and a page turner. Cody's family made it through some impossible odds. You really feel the struggles that they go through as they try everything to get the best results for their son. Chapter 25 really hit me as an attitude changer. I won't say anything about it so as not to spoil anything, but it really made me think about my own life and the tender mercies that abound. God really is in control, even when we think He is not!
