Reading this book just tells you what the people did, but sitting looking at their notes and pictures from the movie - it lets you see how to do it.

An excellent book to get into the heads and vision of screen directors.
Every profiled director gave personal recollections of where their ideas and techniques came from. What got them started, what worked, what didn't.
It completely resonated with me. That sitting and staring and putting places into a production, imagining, fog, snow, light. Of getting people to feel.
Of giving things a crack even though you may not yet have the experience, training or practised skills.
Truly inspirational. My only criticism, 21 international film directors and only 1 of whom was a woman.
If that doesn't put a fire under me, nothing will .. stay tuned!

(I will buy this book when it becomes more affordable online)

Focusses on the techniques used by specific film directors and their previous works. Really informative, but it's big, bold glossy photo layout makes it more of a coffee table book in my opinion.
