Family, responsibility and relationships take center stage here!!!

Randa is watching Ruby Ridge carefully; a fire is in the area and if it hits Ruby Ridge she must vacate her property. All is not as it seems as she greets the sheriff with a pitchfork, and two Firefighters with disdain as they are looking for those refusing to evacuate; “ostriches”. One of the firefighters is JT who is up from Texas for the summer and who has a past with Randa.

JT has to prove he has “grown up” and can listen to instructions, which makes for some humorous situations all while the danger of the fire progresses. Suspenseful, touching read.

This installment of the Line of Fire series was another short but sweet book. Nothing but the end of it takes place in Somewhere, Texas, although the two protagonists did originally meet there.
The story starts with Randa in Montana making preparations for a possible wild fire affecting her property there. We are kept in the dark for quite a long time about her presence here in Montana and why the local sheriff keeps attempting to get onto the property to talk to Randa’s grandmother. The next visitor is even more unwanted, Johnny “J.T.” Walker. JT is one of the hotshot firefighters in the area to fight the wild fire. He is visiting ranches and homes in the area to convince people to evacuate. Randa is not about to be convinced to leave, or to believe that JT has changed from when she knew him in Texas.
JT can’t believe his friend TY hadn’t told him that Randa was living in the area. Sure, things between the three of them had not gone well in Texas, but that didn’t explain Ty’s omission. JT is determined to get Randa to leave the property before the fire reaches it. Randa is determined that she must stay, and besides fires have never gotten close in the past. Randa is hiding a secret, and JT doesn’t really care what it is. He just wants her safe. Well, he just wants her. They had a connection in the past, and JT knew they still had one.
The story basically takes place over a very short span of time, not counting the remembrances of the past or the epilogue. Randa’s secret will come out and JT will need to prove to her that It doesn’t matter to him. He will also need to show her that they belong together, the past be damned.
I voluntarily received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I liked the story, but I did not feel any real connection to the people in it.

Randa works her farm and doesn't need any help, well that's what she says anyway. The truth is, she has a family secret hidden in the house. She also resists leaving her home when a fire is heading towards her.
Johnny well likes to be called JT now is on duty making sure residents leave there homes. Little did he that one of the houses would make him face the past.
I have to be careful what I say here cause part of the charm of this book is the mystery. These two have a bit of history and some chemistry. Poor JT all he wants to do is help Randa, but her pushing him away and his loyalty to his best friend Tyson makes it a bit difficult. And poor Randa such a burden to have dealt with all these years, but once again loyalties are the reason. Alot of emotion in this story but enjoyable to read. I just wanted to know what Randa was hiding.  And it was admirable.

Open Fire is the last of the "In the line of Fire" series. Each book in this series is pretty much a stand alone but you will find connections amongst the characters. This one was a bit of a heartbreaking story for me but yes it has a terrific HEA too. I teared up a little seeing Randa so desperate to protect the only family and home she had left and JT just as desperate to get her to a safe place. The last few chapters where they finally move her grandparents out of the house was quite emotional. Also, all the history between JT, Randa and their mutual friends is based on such shaky and potentially explosive ground I felt like I was walking on eggshells for those parts. All in all, it is a well-rounded ending for a wonderful series, and at some point, I'm definitely going to binge read it again.

I received a free ARC of this book and am voluntarily writing an honest review.

Randa and JT met years ago in Somewhere, Texas. Randa suddenly returned home and JT was left wondering why. Fast forward to the present day and Randa is bust prepping her ranch for an approaching wildfire. JT is a hotshot firefighter who shows up to evacuate residents. Both are surprised to see the other. JT is unsuccessful in getting Randa to leave so he decides to help her prepare. She agrees on the condition that he does not go into the house. It is obvious that she is hiding something but the secret is not revealed until later in the story. I enjoyed getting to know these characters and their story!

This book was like getting together with friends after being apart for awhile. Sometimes the visits are good; sometimes not so good.

Becca Boyd has gifted us with another Line of Fire novel. Again, the storyline is sound; the characters are well-developed but I wish I'd learned a bit more about JT and Tyson from their earlier history with Randa while in Somewhere, TX. (I just wanted to know more!)

If you love those Hotshots...and who doesn't? You'll love Open Fire. Fall in love all over again...Read the entire Line of Fire series--you'll love it, too! ❤️

The obligations and responsibilities surrounding the care of loved ones with Alzheimer's is insurmountable. This book touches on some of the impossible tasks and heartbreaks that caregivers face. The characters are wonderfully lifelike and my heart struggled along with their struggles. There were very little editing issues so this storyline flowed so smoothly. Loved this book and looking forward to more by this author. This voluntary review was based against an advance copy.

As Lizzie tries to protect her Montana ranch from the approaching fire, she has a secret reason to not leave the ranch.  Firefighter JT Walker finds her and tries to help her protect the buildings before the fire reaches her.  She knows him from Somewhere, TX and is surprised to see him in Montana.  The story builds slowly as the past and the present situation are revealed.  Lizzie is a strong heroine who resists help and JT is the handsome hotshot firefighter who insists on helping her.

Randa is in the path of a fire. JT is in Montana to help fight the fire and is shocked to run into the one that got away. These two have some history and unresolved issues, and she doesn't want him anywhere near her or her farm. Couldn't put this down, Randa is so stubborn and JT can't help but feel the need to help her in any way she will allow. Cried a few tears with this one as well. Maybe in the future Ty will get his own book??

Randa Sadler and John Thomas Walker have a past and after years apart they are thrown together again but with a fire danger on the horizon can these 2 work things out or will their hardheadedness destroy them.

This was a fast-paced story that kept me interested throughout. Randa doesn't want to leave her property as the fire gets closer. JT is determined to get her to safety. There are secrets and past issues, but will those keep these two apart? A great story.
