I: unnameable

Rate this book
A book that will truly revolutionize the way we see ourselves.... WE and the  UNIVERSE  are  I  (one)
The diagnosis of Bipolar 1 Disorder- by medical decree and societal perception-- is a lifelong sentence
But, Jeffrey R Fidel, an MD himself, is proof that is not true.
In his beautiful, masterful and minimalist   unnameable , Jeffrey Fidel provides insight into his story of how he used the ancient teachings of Lao Tzu's  Tao Te Ching, to connect to a voice originating from his heart, the "voice within" teaches our true identity is "beyond thought" and that we and the universe are I(One)...
Feeling numbed by his "chemical lobotomy," he continued to "fit into" society  -- Yet, nothing in his life was right--his marriage was falling apart, he had an inner struggle about his career path, and even his beloved dog died.
Through many ups and downs and searching, he came to the  Tao Te Ching . It spoke to him and awakened his awareness that there was another voice, a quiet one that spoke truth to him, a voice that connected him to  all that is . Then, he knew that "we" are not the thoughts in our minds, but rather "we" are unknowable essence woven into the universe.
Today, Jeffrey lives his life in the present moment spreading the word to others that the way to end mental suffering is to be found within.  His book points the way.

When I read this I remember thinking, and upon having a flick through to put this review on, this book is the epitome of the phrase ‘one man’s god is another man’s delusion’ - a profound read for those of us walking that line between mad and glad. One to keep going back to. One to think about. It speaks against the grain and I’m glad.

Profound Simplicity

You are very brave to write this book so simply. There is so much truth here which is usually covered in the upholstery and cotton batting of many words. I've been reading Blavatsky and Crowley who took up volumes to sell lectures and books. Others started churches, sold seminars and "workshops" to profit from seekers. It's all right here. Namaste.

This book touches on a subject that is a taboo in our society, even though mental illness knows no boundaries. Jeffrey Fidel does not go into a lot of detail, and is a bit vague explaining major turning points in his life. He instead expounds on the mental steps that lead to his inward journey, and only then does he experience the peace he craves.
In the past he would enter a state of mindlessness that gave him a sense of “escape drug”. It enhanced his physical sense of sight, hearing, taste, touch, and smell. He found this behavior was not acceptable by society and was discouraged.
What I liked best about this book is the inside understanding from someone who knows what mental illness feels like. This book lets you know you are not alone, but also helps others comprehend that mental struggles are real, not a choice.
