The Pony Girls are ready for their first summer at Storm Cliff Stables! Horses, swimming, camp life, and most important, friendships. Kianna can't wait for her birthday! Care packages, lunch with Aunt Jane, and finally being as old as the other Pony Girls. But is everyone too busy with the talent show to remember her big day? Translated by native Spanish speakers. Aligned to Common Core standards and correlated to state standards. Calico is an imprint of Magic Wagon, a division of ABDO.
Kianna's story is one that we've all probably experienced: we think that every one we believe loves and cares for us has forgotten our most special day, our birthday. Kianna has not received one care package since she came to Storm Cliff Stables, a summer camp for girls who love horses, although her mama had promised a package a week. Kianna tries to think of reasons why she hasn't received one, but when her birthday is finally here and not even her Pony Girl friends wish her a "Happy Birthday", Kianna feels abandoned and alone. She decides to focus on her hula-hoop act for the Miss Firecracker Talent Show as a way to forget her sorrows. As the talent show comes to an end, Kianna finds out just how much she is loved by everyone.
Kianna is the youngest Pony Girl at riding camp; she will have her 8th birthday away from her mother. She is disappointed that she has not received any care packages at camp like the other girls and to top off her disappointment none of the others seem to want to celebrate with her. Both of which are a simple misunderstanding that works itself out at the camp’s annual talent show.
Dealing with issues such as handling disappointment, homesickness, and discovering your own talents this beginning chapter book covers topics important for young readers. It is part of a four volume series each covering a story about one of the Pony Girls. I would recommend this book for purchase by any school or public library. This book was provided by the publisher for professional review by SWON Libraries.
