This book, to my understanding, is a mere snapshot of the larger collection of Blessed Mary of Agreda's writings and visions. It specifically focuses on the life of St. Joseph, to whom I have had a special devotion for the last several years.

While this book is not what you'd call a "page-turner," given that it's best for spiritual nourishment, I did find myself actually riveted in certain spots -- I found it fascinating to read about how life actually was for the Holy Family, assuming that this remarkable woman's visions are credible (which we have no reason to believe they are not).

Moreover, I found this account of St. Joseph's life so moving that I actually cried as I approached the end of this book. His love for God, the Blessed Mother, and His son -- whom he regarded as Lord, knowing fully that the divine was residing in his home -- is absolutely beautiful. You will finish this book with a new understanding of what love and holiness look like in a marriage and in a household.

To conclude this review, I want to list the promises enumerated in the final chapter of the book to those who have a devotion to St. Joseph throughout their lives:

1) They will obtain the virtue of chastity and be withdrawn from the danger of losing it;
2) They will receive powerful assistance to be freed from sin and to recover the grace of God;
3) They will acquire, by his means, devotion for Our Blessed Lady;
4) They will obtain a happy death and a special protection against the demons at this last hour;
5) They will intimidate the enemies of salvation by pronouncing the name of St. Joseph;
6) They will obtain health of body and consolation in affliction;
7) They will have, by his intercession, successors in families.

St. Joseph, pray for us!
