This charming little book was a good introduction to all that makes the Swiss, "Swiss." I am of Swiss ancestry, and anxious always to learn about my ancestral homeland, especially after having met some distant cousins there. I admire the national commitment to the environment, their national pride, and their orderly society. The book is almost 30 years old, but much of what the ex-pat, Paul Bilton, describes is still very true. It isn't inexpensive to live in Switzerland, but the quality of life is worth the cost.

This book is funny. It's basically a deluxe version of the Xenophobe's book. If you can find the normal softback version, that's probably a better/cheaper bet.

Here's a quote from the first page. "The population of Switzerland is made up of 4.5 million German-speakers, 1.25 million French-speakers, 700,000 Italian-speakers, 70,000 Romansh-speakers and 500,000 who say very little."

- Paul Bilton

Since I'm living here in Switzerland, this book is full of useful information and dangerous stereotypes that are sure to help me and get me in trouble.

A playful review of Swiss foibles, practices and beliefs by a British ex-pat. First recommended to me by my Swiss teacher.
