If only she didn't have to deal with the sensual temptation of her new partner - the notorious Dark Duke! Thomas Ashwood unnerves her with every burning look and suggestive word. Born and raised on the outskirts of Toronto, Ontario Amy fled the big city to settle down with the country boy of her dreams. When she's not furiously typing away at her computer, she's a mom to three wonderful children, who have given her another job as a taxi driver.
A voracious reader, she was given her first romance novel by her grandmother who shared her penchant for a hot romance. From that moment, Amy was hooked by the magical worlds, handsome heroes and sigh worthy romances contained in the pages and she knew what she wanted to be when she grew up.
Life got in the way, and after the birth of her second child, she decided to pursue her dream of becoming a romance author.
UNWRAPPED BY THE DUKE by author Amy Ruttan is a November 2016 release by Harlequin Medical romance series.
Geri Collins wanted to be a surgeon but after her relationship break downs, she decided to start life afresh in a new environment after accepting her father’s offer. Her dad had his own Medical Practice and she was to become a partner in it. The other partner was Thomas Ashwood, a renowned surgeon. He wanted to buy out the whole practice and go solo. So he was not too happy with Geri’s arrival. But sparks fly and attraction flares.
UNWRAPPED BY THE DUKE is an interesting story based on high society in London. Author Amy Ruttan once again brings an entertaining story which will hook readers and keep their interest riveted till the last page. The exotic and dashing Lords and Dukes in this story is added bonus. The fun banter and witty dialogue makes it a fun read. And the drama in the medical scenes captures the readers imagination.
Highly recommended for all readers of medical romance.
I have a fondness for historical stories and even though this one is not historical there are a lot of references to that era and I fell into it as I do with MS Ruttan's stories her books always have me turning the pages and this one is a beauty.
Geri Collins has grown up with her unloving mother in Scotland never knowing who her fathers is, Geri is now a Doctor and when her father arrives on the scene a Lord no less and offers her the position of cardiologist at his practice she jumps at the chance to help her father and to get to know him after all of these years. This is such a change for Geri and she is a bit reserved but when she meets the partner in The Harley St practice her heart flutters.
Thomas Ashwood is a cardiothoracic surgeon and a Duke the notorious Dark Duke and partner in the Harley St practice with Lord Collins and when he meets his daughter Geri his new partner well lets say the sparks fly, but Thomas is determined to stay a single man for what he thinks are good reasons and getting involved with Geri is not the thing to do but you know when sparks start flying how can he deny them.
This is really a fabulous story it is face paced beautifully written it is Christmas time and as Geri brings out the best in Thomas at this time of the year you will be smiling and the way these two click is amazing they were meant to be together. Do yourself a favour pick this one up and sit back and enjoy I loved it real sigh worthy loved the setting the characters just so good.
Unwrapped by the Duke by Amy Ruttan doesn't disappoint from an entertainment perspective. Every aspect of this wonderful story tugs at your heartstrings. The compelling opening scene right down to the dramatically well-written ending sweeps you off your feet. Instantly you start rooting for the characters even if the challenges they face create conflict. And although their journey to finding happiness is tested, Geri and Thomas keep finding ways to make things work. In the end, their deeply passionate romance, the convincing medical drama and the cheer of Christmas keeps the atmosphere merry and does all kind of things to your heart! Well done, Amy Ruttan.
So I got about 12 books in the mail yesterday and I couldn't wait to get my eyes on the pages of one in particular, Unwrapped By The Duke by Amy Ruttan, because I know she always satisfies my cravings for medical romance books.
So naturally I grabbed it first and started devouring it and as usually I was very happy I did. Ms. Ruttan never leaves the reader hanging or thirsty for more unless you count the fact that you either want to search for and read more of her books or if you've read them all then being left antsy cause you have to wait in anticipation of her next release (which by the way can't seem to come quick enough for me.)
Two doctors left hurt by their parents, one by a father who hated to even look at him because of misplaced blame and resentment that his beloved wife was dead due to medical complications during her pregnancy and one left hurt and alone after her mother took every chance she could to demean her and treat her like crap (including keeping the name of her father and a chance at a loving relationship until it was almost too late.)
Thomas Ashwood is a cardiothoracic surgeon and since the passing of his father known as the notorious rake, The Dark Duke, Geri Collins grew up feeling unworthy and unloved by the only parent she's ever known until she finds her father but its almost too late because her father , and Thomas' partner, is dying from cancer.
Because of their upbringing neither Thomas or Geri wanted to take a chance on love, his because he knew how painful it was to lose someone he loved and who he thought the sun rose and set on by losing his beloved mother and her by the horrible example of the way her mother treated her and the way the one man she had let into her heart had treated her as he destroyed her self esteem and her career as a surgeon.
Together can these heartbroken doctors who have found themselves partners when she takes over for her father in the office they share, find a way to heal themselves and each other? The chemistry you can feel rolling off the pages says yes .
Thomas and Geri are two extraordinary characters on their own who make Unwrapped By The Duke worth reading alone but add his sister and her father into the mix and you have another must read that you won't be able to put down until you finish devouring it, I know I couldn't even though it meant I was up till 2 in the morning as my husband snored from the next room.
Unwrapped By The Duke delivers everything one would imagine in a medical romance and even more especially when you add to the fact that Ms. Ruttan wrote it, so if you've never had the pleasure of reading a medical romance or gasp.... a romance by Amy Ruttan then this is one you certainly don't want to miss.
Then you can join me in waiting in anticipation of whatever Ms Ruttan releases next because I know that whatever it is it will satisfy me once again.... and so the waiting begins! ( Did I fail to mention i hate waiting... that I'm the kid who would unwrapped my presents when no one was looking and rewrap them before anyone found out? yep.. thats me and the wait for Ms. Ruttan's next release already has me foaming at the mouth in anticipation!)
The characters were believable and the writing was easy to read. There were some things that struck me as odd but may just be a difference between England's doctor system and the US. The surgeon is Mr. instead of Dr. And the heroine drops out of her surgical residency and goes immediately into practice as a cardiologist.
I quite enjoyed this story although there were a few issues which kept me from buying into the story.
Firstly Geri was 30 and yet her career had been ruined by her affair with her ‘teacher’. It was never properly explained why that had been the case or why the end of her affair had ruined her ambitions to become a surgeon or why folk in Glasgow had looked down on her. This niggled throughout the book.
Geri’s attitude towards her father was inexplicable to me. She knew he hadn’t ever known about her and yet she still blamed him. I just felt this plot line lacked credibility and manufactured a problem that wasn’t there.
I really liked Thomas - he was much more self aware than Geri.
I found her the weakest character in the story. She was cold and aggressive and combative which might have been understandable but she lacked charm and it was hard to understand why Thomas fell in love.
The dialogue was often stilted and mechanical. I don’t know whether the author was attempting to model what she thought the British aristocracy spoke like, but you only have to listen to Prince William speak. I know that it’s not the case.
Thomas is a Duke. Dukes appear with such monotonous regularity in Mills and Boon, they should be more common than train drivers! In fact there are only 31 Dukes in the UK. So how come one of them is sharing a Harley Street practice with a Lord? I don’t find the titles and class system at all interesting and I liked Thomas despite his Dukedom rather than because of it.
Finally if you want to escape a British winter in December - you wouldn’t go to Greece! Parts of Greece get snow in winter - just like the rest of Europe! As the author is Canadian, it’s perhaps understandable that she was unaware of that - but research would have told her Greece is not where you go to escape the December cold.
However this was a well written and entertaining tale. Three stars.
Amy Ruttan's 12th Harlequin Medical is a delicious story about a dashing lord who also happens to be an amazing cardio thoracic surgeon on Harley Street and his love-match who is pretty much the opposite of what he feels his Mother would have wanted for him.
The thing about November and December releases is that Christmas is approaching and it just helps get all geared up and happy about the festive season. Geri's life changes after discovering her father is a Lord and she's offered an amazing opportunity. The amazing opportunity comes with a massively dashing and handsome distraction and with Christmas coming the feels of this story gets me all warm and smiley. Faced with the upheaval of changing countries, meeting the love of her life and with everything that goes with feeling unloved by her existing family, Geri's journey was wonderful to read. I loved the Dark Duke and I really enjoyed the sister's addition to the plot.
Love the story, love the cover and love love love that Amy Ruttan has the ability to make me smile as her intricate and well thought out stories take me away from the world politics everyone is fighting about.
Geri Collins despite living with an unloving mother and never knowing her father has achieved her goal of becoming a cardiologist. Living in Scotland she is totally floored when her father arrives and offers her a position at his practice on Harley Street. She knows she has to take this opportunity to get the know her father who she finds out is a Lord so grabs the job. What she doesn't know is she will be working with Lord Collins partner , Duke Thomas Ashwood known as the Dark Duke. Thomas Ashwood has his reasons for making the decision to never marry and it seems like his determination is secure. That is except this is an Amy Ruttan book and she has a way of making her character forget what they were determined to do and the Dark Duke will see the light because of it. A lovely story with just enough of everything to make a reader sigh at the end. A reader will never be disappointed with a Ms. Ruttan book.
Unwrapped by the Duke by Amy Ruttan is a brilliantly written medical romance. Geri Collins was surprised to find out the father she thought abandoned her never even knew she existed, not to mention that he is a Lord. Geri’s father offered her a position as cardiologist in his Harley Street practice and after having her hopes of becoming a cardiothoracic surgeon dashed, she accepts the offer and moves back to London from Glasgow.
Her father’s partner is one of the best cardiothoracic surgeons in the business and according to Geri, one of the most conceited, prideful men she ever had the displeasure of knowing! Thomas the “Dark Duke” Ashwood and Geri immediately cross swords and the sparks fly. Thomas is not going to make things easy for his competitor, she is encroaching on his territory!
Amy Ruttan really delivered an excellent story with this book. It was highly entertaining and I recommend it to any and all romance lover.
Unwrapped by the Duke by Amy Ruttan Geraldine (Geri) Collins learned that she was the daughter of a lord and she finally is getting to know her father. All her life she thought her father did not want anything to do with her, her boyfriend basically dumped her and when her father asked her to come and run the Harley Street clinic she went. Thomas Ashwood who is her father’s partner plus pretty well known for being the notorious “Dark Duke”! Now Geri is tempted by the sensual feelings he brings out in her and he is looking and suggesting the same back to her. Thomas is helping care for his younger sister and Geri helps him find the meaning of Christmas again. Amy Ruttan always does an awesome job on writing books and this is no exception. We see how Geri and Thomas life tangles together.
A charming tale about long lost relatives with a touch of aristocracy to it!
Geraldine has recently learned that she's the daughter of a lord in London. She's glad to use the excuse to get away from an ex-relationship in Glasgow and go run her father's medical practice.
Thomas Ashwood is her new partner when she takes over her father's practice, and his reputation precedes him as "the dark duke" who ravishes fair maidens.
Geri and Thomas find that they actually quite like each other, and as each stumbles through their own hang-ups in life, they lean on each other and help each other grow into better people.
Geri has recently been reunited with her long lost father. Moving down from Glasgow to London to work at her fathers private practice. Unfortunately she has to work with her fathers partner, the annoying Thomas. A temptation she could do without, a sentiment Thomas feels all to well. It isn't easy to avoid temptation when you keep being thrown together. I do love a Christmas time romance. Even grinches can be changed by the magic of Christmas, that and the love of a good woman. Both Amy and Thomas had not had the best of parents, I was so glad to see them overcome their pasts and face the future together.
As usual I had hard time putting down this book. The story was new, and written with great intelligence and medical knowledge. The relationship between the main characters and their families were full of love, hurt and fear. Letting go of past hurts and learning to open yourself up again is hard and well explored in this book. Amy Ruttan has written another imaginative and thoroughly intriguing story. I really enjoyed the resolution of their relationship and the little surprise the author tucked into the end.
"Unwrapped by the Duke" by Amy Ruttan is Classic romance at its best wrapped up in a Medical romance. Geraldine, Geri, Collins finds out she is the daughter of a Lord and takes a job as a Doctor in her father's medical practice. She meets us with Duke Thomas Ashwood, aka the Dark Duke, and they find a way to work together. Somewhere along the way they also find that there is chemistry between them, and sparks fly.
