Nesly Clerge received his bachelor’s degree in physiology and neurobiology at the University of Maryland, and later pursued a doctoral degree in the field of chiropractic medicine. He is currently practicing as a board certified chiropractic physician. Although his background is primarily science-based, he has finally embraced his lifelong passion for writing. Clerge’s debut novel, When the Serpent Bites, explores choices, consequences, and the complexities of human emotions, especially when we are placed in a less-than-desirable setting. When he is not writing, Clerge manages several multidisciplinary clinics. He enjoys reading, chess, traveling, exploring the outdoors, and spending time with his significant other and his sons.

This is one wild trilogy, powerful and so full of twists it leaves you guessing all the way to the end. Starks is a complex character, fascinating even if not always likeable. Watching him persevere through a self-inflicted nightmare of betrayal, regret, and simmering rage has been an absolute blast.
Nesly Clerge writes skillfully, blending gritty realism and thoughtful human psychology to create a complex plot and vivid characters. This trilogy already has 4 novels (if you include The Anatomy of Cheating). How about a fifth?

Interesting Tale ... NOT what I expected ...
... and, I'm not sure what to make of the book's (?series?) plot. Stark is a conceited, self-righteous egomaniac who has been thrown in jail. Unfortunately, he is also a rich prick who gets his own way, no matter the cost to those around him. Yikes! What a character to base a trilogy on!

Enthralling
Thoroughly enjoyed this story of the consequences that happen when we act in a jealous fog or play the blame game. The only thing that's annoying is that there's only two books here and not three.

When The Serpents Bites (Book 1): This is the tale of entrepreneur Fredrick Starks early years of a 15 year sentence at Sands Correctional Facility. It showcases his rise to power while serving time in a maximum security prison. It's a very good novel. 7/13-15.
When The Dragon Roars (Book 2): Fredrick Starks was stabbed up by his cellmate, Jackson, with a gang led by Beon (Bo) Jones. One by one, his enemies were picked off and killed. Charges were never pressed against Starks by Investigative Officer Spenser of the Council. He had it in for the inmate. Though, many others in prison knew the truth, all went by the old jail house motto "snitches get stitches." Fredrick had CO's and inmates on his payroll, plus he was the new plug for lucrative cell phone business which is considered illegal contraband. He's the leader of the Dragon gang and runs things in Sands Correctional Facility. This novel just gets better and better. 7/15-16.
I plan to read the last story in this trilogy, When The Phoenix Rises.

This is an amazing series by a new author. Starkes commits a crime of passion/OCD (depending on your point of view) and life goes down hill from there. Like the Biblical Lott, it's as though the devil is purposely toying with him. I can't wait for book three. Hope it doesn't take a year to write.
