Have you ever been a cheerleader or gymnast?Well if so, the book “Unblocked: The Walls Come Tumbling Down” by Jeff Benson is a nonfiction book that toy would enjoy. This book mainly focuses on mental blocks and what they are, and how to overcome them. A mental block for is when an athlete is trying to learn a new skill, such as a back handspring and can't. The athlete may have trouble in one part of the skill or have the fear of doing it. Sometimes a mental block can have to do with spotters. For example, a gymnast could do it if there is a spot is there but without they can't. Overall I did enjoy this read, I learned many new things about meant blocks and the real anxiety that goes into them, as well as techniques to help overcome them. One positive aspect that I liked about this book was that if you are a cheerleader or gymnast you can personally connect to this book and connect your experiences with the authors. Even though I am not a huge reader and don't normally enjoy reading, in this book I enjoyed it since I could connect to it personally and could learn something new while reading. I would recommend this book to any cheerleader or a gymnast. I would also recommend this book to coaches of these two sports or parent. I would recommend it to parents because Benson does talk about what the parents in the situation can do to help their child.
