The new doctor Fate banishes demons while Nabu gets drunk and watches Letterman. Then a demon shows up and becomes their dog.
Yikes this is not a good start to the new characters or series. The art is hit and miss and the weird sitcom vibe doesn’t seem to mesh with the concept. Then you have the whole step mom being in love with her son thing... I’ll give it a chance but I’m not so sure about this…

Funny enough I liked this first issue more than the entire mini. It has a better sturcutre, trippy but not nearly as insane as the mini. And we have three leads who bounce off each other well. The art is...a bit much at times.

The beginning and end narration end with the ‘Old One’, revealed to be Andrew Bennet; a vampire, explain that he is tired.

Dr Fate interrupts a two-bit sorcerer who was about to be attacked by the demons he summoned. Seemingly unbothered by the possibility that he could’ve been killed by the demons he summoned, Joachim Hesse falls asleep, unaware there was a single demon who escaped Fate’s eradication.

Fate returns home and splits, becoming Linda and an angry Eric. HE can feel the woman’s hesitation and disbelief.

Turning to Nabu for help, who only wants to be called Kent, does not work as he is currently drunk. After so many years, he wants to learn what it’s like to be human.

Being called a child offends Eric, though later he reflects that he did feel older when he was still a 10 year old boy. Having been magically aged has left him feeling lost. The vibe he gets from his stepmother doesn’t help either.

The demon that was not returned to ‘whence’ he came, found Linda and Eric’s apartment and while the pair freak out, Nabu-Kent wants to talk to the little guy.

Apparently, this demon never fit in with the others and wants to stay with ‘the great sorcerer’. And he does so, as a dog…

Interesting dynamics going on. It’ll be good to see how they evolve.
