I've read a decent number of these, not the whole book. I enjoy the expository writings of C. H. Mackintosh, they are very accessible. It's a little confusing that they are called "Notes" because they sound like sermons or lectures; each chapter is a coherent whole, and it is certainly not a verse-by-verse commentary.
It was years ago but I remember really enjoying his thoughts on Abraham and Terah in Genesis 11–12.

Excellent Commentary on Genesis

So rich, rewarding, and revealing are these notes on the first book of the Bible. I have read through Genesis many times before but never gleaned precious truths about Jacob, for example, that I read here. I am grateful to the Lord for His insights He surely pressed upon His faithful servant, Charles Henry Mackintosh. Treasures galore lie within these pages.

This was a fine, easy read that both explores the history of the book of Genesis, but also includes the spritual points and ties it to the foreshadowing of Christ. Very enjoyable.
