Drawing upon the knowledge gained by her hard-earned success, author Bobbie Hinman shares her valulable advice on creating and marketing picture books that children will love. Her topics include: understanding what children want to read; balancing the combination of words and pictures; making an impact with your cover; choosing an illustrator, editor and graphic designer; learning the secrets to successful book fairs and book signings; planning school visits; seeking reviews and awards; launching your book with a blast; and many tried-and-true, creative marketing tips.
Bobbie Hinman holds a B.S. degree in Elementary Education and is a former elementary teacher. She has applied her knowledge of children’s literature to the creation of a series of fanciful fairy books that have received 26 children's book awards. Bobbie’s premise is simple - Who better to blame it on than a fairy? •The Fart Fairy is responsible for embarrassing sounds and odors. •The Knot Fairy tangles our hair while we sleep. •The Sock Fairy is responsible for lost and mismatched socks. •The Belly Button Fairy makes sure every child has one belly button and it's "always in the middle". • The Freckle Fairy visits sleeping children and gives them kisses that magically turn into freckles
A very informative guide on writing a children’s book. Because social media are changing fast I would have love I had read this a year ago. But even now Google+ doesn’t exist, this book is still a jewel for beginning children’s book authors.
Having written many stories, I was never able to move forward, not knowing what the next step should be. Thank you, Bobbie, for showing me the way. You have answered my questions so clearly!
I enjoyed reading this book and found it to be full of practical and hopefully easy to follow advice. I am now going to go back and re-read it to further embed the ideas. Looking forward to trying to implement some of them and see whether my book sales improve.
Bobbie does an excellent job of explaining in easy to understand terms how to self-publish a children's picture book. Lots of great information from choosing an illustrator to marketing. She provides great examples of sales sheet and press releases. Well-organized for any "newbie" to follow.
I loved this book so much. It was so well thought out and informative that I feel more than ready to begin. If you're an aspiring writer read this now.
This book is so helpful for my new author journey. Definitely recommend it. I have learned so much so far. So thankful to have access to this amazing resource.
