They had a system: Gia would seduce the owner of the house while her boyfriend, Cameron, ransacked the place. And, up until now, the system had always worked flawlessly. Until tonight, when they arrive at the penthouse suite of one of the most extravagant hotels in New York. Until tonight, when the suite's handsome and charismatic owner turns the tables on them.
I'm renowned for giving my readers a book hangover.
> My characters will carve out a place in your heart. > My stories will leave you wondering, thinking, reliving. > And I write the hottest, steamiest love scenes you'll ever read...
So, this is an erotic story called "Tormented By the Wolf" and it belongs to a series apparently called the "Fox Pit Billionaires" (typo'd in the promo material in the back to be a possessive instead of plural). You know what I expected from the title and synopsis? Rich werewolves, one of whom turns the tables on a would-be seductress to bring her into the pack. You know what I got? Normal humans, awkward writing, and zero mentions of werewolves or any other variety of wolves. The billionaire even has a tattoo, but it isn't a wolf!
The only hint of wolf comes after the novella, in a "sneak peek" of another book in the series. Apparently, wolves are what they call the clients paying to have sex with brothel ladies dressed as foxes. I'd have never known from the actual story!
Beyond that, the writing quality is kind of low. I would class this next to the fanfic written by someone who is just getting started: there's a lot of potential, but a few missteps really ruin the flow. Most egregious among them is the use of juvenile terms like "undies" for underwear and "backdoor" for an asshole. In other words: what little steaminess there is gets wrecked by the odd wording... and cringe-worthy dialogue.
As for the plot: I like dubcon fantasies, but I'm far more interested in the paranormal angle since it provides extra distance from reality; this didn't quite appeal to me once I realized the men with temper issues weren't werewolves. I also strongly dislike the whole "yes sir, no sir, please sir" thing which is sadly prominent among BDSM stories, and this novella includes some of that. So overall it was a big miss for me. And that's a shame, considering I did find the characters and premise interesting enough to keep reading and the initial buildup of sexual tension was quite steamy.
I wouldn't seek out more books from this series, nor would I recommend it to anyone I know who is interested in erotica. There are better things of similar plots available elsewhere.
(Also of interest, 28% of this book is just a preview of another book in the series. I can't stand when that happens!)
I have enjoyed the 5 books by Lacie that I have now completed. I wish I had read all the prequels before starting Fools gold. Book two Blank Cheque must be read next or you will be as confused as I was in starting the third book ARC. Good hot stories.Interesting concept.
Gotta say, I'm loving getting the background info on these girls from the Fox Pit! Gia I liked right off the bat while reading Fool's Gold. In this we get to see how Gia got introduced to the men that run the Fox Pit.
Gia and her boyfriend have a nice little scam going on. Gia flirts with someone that looks like money. When Gia, her boyfriend, and the mark go back to the mark's place to party, Gia intensifies her flirting and/or sleeping with the mark, while her boyfriend makes off with some expensive but small goods. When they meet Owen, this seems like just another easy mark. That is, until it's not...
Owen isn't all looks and no brain. Gia loves sex so she isn't worried. But what happens next wasn't in the plan...
Love that we get to see how these girls got their start. After reading these prequels, Gia is still my favorite of the established girls :-)
**I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book**
Gia's story was interesting as in the boyfriend was using her to his advantage that is until they met Owen. Owen knows exactly what they are up to. This is a hot sexy series and a must read.
This is the first I've read from Lacie D Fox, and the story although a little overdone by some seemed to just keep clipping right along. We're introduced to the story, the plot and off running before we know it. It's naughty, but hot. Defo worth a read. I'm looking forward to more.
Wow, this quick read was expertly written, and I was immediately drawn into the story. I couldn't stop reading. I think the author did a great job at creating characters, with bad intentions. This story was suspenseful as it was sexy to read.
