Ayesha and the Firefish

Rate this book
‘Ayesha thought for a bit. Her parents had told her never to talk to strangers. But they hadn’t mentioned anything about strange dolphins.’

Ten-year-old Ayesha has everything an adventurer needs—courage, cleverness, creativity, and a complete lack of caution. But even Ayesha has to admit that the mission Shekina (the Queen of the Seas, no less) has charged her with may be slightly out of her league.

After all, it does involve saving the world. Of course.

And it’s not like she has a fire-breathing dragon or a super-smart android as a sidekick. Try a snarky surfboarding snail instead.

Join Ayesha as she jumps headlong into an extra-extraordinary adventure that takes her halfway across the world (and a little beyond).

Cover is beautiful. It has been exceptionally designed. It's been such a long time since I've come across such a refine work of art. It strikes a great resemblance to some of the best children storybooks we come across during our visits to bookstores. The best part being the gorgeous illustrations which accompany every story - adds a feather to the cap.

We're in the universe & the universe is in us.

From the stars we came, to stars we return.

'Your parents are the most important things in your life. Never forget the words 'father & mother' make the phrase 'from the heart' when you rearrange the letters.'

'From fire comes water, from water comes earth
From life comes death, from death comes birth
From darkness comes light, from stillness comes flight
From stars we came, to stars we return
Tread carefully, ye gods, lest ye burn.'

'We do not breathe but are alive
We always drink but do not thirst
We move as one but number many
Instantly vanish are you approach
What are we?'
'Fishes. You're a group of fish! Fish breathe underwater, they're always drinking water, they move in shoals & scatter when we try & touch them.'

'All life on Earth & the atoms in our bodies were created in the furnace of now-long-dead stars. The carbon, nitrogen & oxygen atoms in our bodies, as well as atoms of all other heavy elements, were created in stars over 4.5 billion years ago. Those stars exploded in what is called a supernova & all these elements went into space & came to earth & became basis of all living things.'

'We're a way for the universe to know itself. Some part of our being knows this is where we came from. We long to return. And we can, because the cosmos is also within us. We're made of star stuff.'

The book takes the reader on a magical journey. The most interesting fact being it combines - fantasy, facts, research, science, art, literature, history & spirituality in a seemingly effortless manner. It also weaves mystery & adventure intertwined adding another feature/feather to the cap. A must read book for children, highly recommend for fantasy lovers.

Loved reading Ayesha and the Firefish. One of the best books I read this year. The story is great, the pacing awesome and the characters absolutely adorable. I enjoyed the humour a lot. Ayesha makes for one fine protagonist.
