Clayburn was no ordinary gambler. His skill with cards matched his way with women, and the gun that he wore was his ace-in-the-hole. He'd played against stacked decks and loaded dice before, but this time the odds were three to one against him--three guns aimed straight and true at his head.
Brutal, violent western involving Mexican revolution, stolen treasure, and revenge. Hero Clayburn joins gang out to steal treasure from Mexican general and sadistic American mercenaries. Graphic fight scenes, but unsatisfying climax about escape through an underground river.
As a child, Clayburn had been taken in by a Mexican family after his parents died and was raised by them as a son. He'd been in Tubavi Springs waiting to meet his "brother," Juan Ramirez when he got word that a bounty killer had shot him and had him in jail waiting for a doctor.
So naturally, he broke him out and escaped town ahead of the posse. he learns that Juan and their father had gotten involved in a revolution when a General Otero had taken over the territory. A man named Dietrich led his army and, Clayburn learned, had hung their father.
Clayburn immediately made plans to go after the man. Also, to rob their plunder to purchase modern weapons for the rebels.
But that was incidental. Revenge was foremost on his mind.
