This is a nice pictorial history of the Pittsburgh Pirates from their beginnings through the 1997 season. It has a good collection of photos. In hindsight, there is unfortunately too much optimism in the last chapter of the book. Unfortunately, no one knew that the 1997 season was the high water mark during the Pirates record breaking twenty losing seasons (matched only in 2012 before ending the streak in 2013). This book does show that the Pirates to do have a rich history of being successful. This is must for any die hard Pirate fans library. Beat 'em, Bucs!
This brief history of the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team spans the period from the team's founding in the late nineteenth century through the 2015 season. It is a coffee-table book, replete with lots of fabulous photographs, but the length of the book and the breadth of the subject that it covers textually, far exceeds that of most such formatted publications. It doesn't go into lots of season-by-season detail, as may be expected, but it gives us most of the organization's historical highlights.
