Death. Infidelity. Public humiliation. In the aftermath, the future looked pretty bleak, but somewhere in this terrible mess--there had to be goodness. Life after death. Love after betrayal. Beauty from ashes.

After living for a few years in the land between what had happened and what was yet to come, Jacquelyn and her husband, David relocated from an agricultural town in Arizona to their new home in Southern California. They returned to the place she and her husband, of nearly three decades, call home.

Jacquelyn writes nearly every day, stretching herself between fiction, memoir blogging, and collegiate creative writing classes. Kharis Publishing released her fictional manuscript, Where the Water Rages, a novel in October 2016.

Do not despise the small beginnings for the eyes of the Lord rejoice to see the work begin --Zechariah 4:10

Highly recommend. In this story you will meet Kimly who takes a journey from America to Asia to write the ultimate story. She just knows that if she can write a story exposing human trafficking, it will gain her the admiration of others and make her life worthwhile. However along her journey a series of encounters and events teach her that it's not all about her and open her eyes to the very real darkness in the human trafficking business. And when she finds hersel in over her head, God sends a very unlikely companion to help her on her journey. Kimly a woman who has no interest in God ends up teamed up with Dak, a pastor, who is concerned for Kimlys safety. As part of her research, Kimly gets herself into several life threatening situations but each time Dak comes to the rescue and as the two of them become friends, Kimly lets her guard down and begins to entertain the idea that God is real and that he is intimately involved in our lives. She eventually ends up surrendering to Gods call for her life, and returns to America a changed woman.
Along her journey she meets Noi who is a child caught up in the human slavery and her heart goes out to Noi. As the reader is introduced to Noi, the reader is also given glimpses of what that life is really like. Personally, this book opened my eyes to the depravity of this business and broke my heart for the very real victims.
So prepare to get caught up in the story of Noi, Kimly, and Dak. Prepare to have your eyes opened to the business of human trafficking. You won't regret it.

Wow. This book really puts you through an emotional wringer. The story line revolves around one woman's search to dig deeper into the appalling reality of human trafficking. Sill manages to convey the harsh and desperate situations, without getting too vividly detailed on the gruesome horrors.

It's hard to find an author that can tell a story through both the eyes of a child and an adult equally well. Most of the book switches back and forth between the viewpoint of a child and the protagonist Kimly. The situational descriptions paint a picture of not only the location, but the emotions and thoughts of each character.

Despite the harsh subject matter addressed, I finished reading this in two sittings. I was compelled to keep reading on, as the author conveyed a sense of urgency and action. Suspense and action are woven in without hindering the story. Historical details are spread liberally across the chapters, making you want to learn more about the countries visited.

Overall, I'd give this book four out of five stars. The characters and settings are well described, the pace of the story flows smoothly, and the subject matter keeps your attention riveted.

I was sent a copy of this book for an honest review.

How do I begin, with so many emotions running through my heart and mind after reading this beautiful novel? How can I possibly express the truths I found in my own life as I read through 'Where the Water Rages' without giving anything away?

Sill's imagery through her words are more than breathtaking, they are all-consuming. As Sill describes the environment and interactions throughout the novel in perfect detail; all my senses are heightened, as if I were witness to every moment.

Sill tackles a very tough subject matter that we should all be aware of, and do our part to help end the destructive and vile act of human trafficking. Sill's description of these acts are not explicit in anyway, but poignant. The only uncomfortable feeling I walked away with this subject matter, is that I live in a world where this exists.

To answer my second question above, I can't expand on my thoughts anymore without doing a disservice to the author, and especially to you, the reader. What I can say is that I walked away from 'Where the Water Rages' blessed and full of hope. I encourage every person to read this novel, and then ask yourself, what raging waters drive your fears that keep you from moving forward?

Everytime I read a book written by someone I know, I'm afraid I'll be left grasping for something positive to say about it. That was not the case with this book. Jacquelyn did a wonderful job catching and keeping my attention and imagination.

Kimly Denim leaves her husband and twin sons behind in Southern California to make her mark on the world as an investigative journalist writing about human trafficking in Thailand. Noi is a 9 year old girl living in the horrors of the sex slave trade. Dak is a widowed preacher sucked into Kimly's bullheaded pursuit of her story.

Because of the subject matter, I was terrified to even start reading. But Noi's story could not have been told better. The graphicness I feared was not there but the realities were not hidden nor handled with kid gloves. The story moves quickly and covers a lot of ground. The main characters are well developed but not written to be flawless. The details of the Thai landscape and historical settings are beautifully spun. This is not a typical cookie-cutter "Christian" novel. It made me take a step back and look at what motivates my life.

I just finished Where the Water Rages by Jacquelyn Sill. What an amazing story! Jacquelyn Sill did a great job portraying, not just physical struggle, but our inner struggle as well- oh, how our emotional waters can rage. She also did an amazing job bringing to light sex trafficking and how it affects the child. Jacquelyn wrote on this subject very delicately. Her book is a must read! Also, don’t forget the tissue near the end. ~Author H.E. Olsen

I received this book for free in a Goodreads giveaway.

My response to reading this book is very different from the reviews that enticed me to enter the contest. Jacquelyn Sill does tackle themes of faith, family, infidelity, and the horrors of human trafficking but for me it was not mesmerizing. The writing did not enable me to bond with the characters or come to know them with any depth. Plot events at too many times seemed too "convenient" for me- in particular Dak's initial intervention with Kimly and her investigative mission.
A true sense of place was also lacking.
