Sir Alfred Patrick Caldwell-Moore, CBE, Hon FRS, FRAS, known as Patrick Moore, was an English amateur astronomer, who is the most well known English promoter of astronomy. Moore wrote numerous books on the subject, as well as make public, television and radio appearances, over the course of his long life. He is credited as having done more than any other to raise the profile of astronomy among the British general public.
A book that delves into detail about the history of astronomy, cosmology and the study of the sky from 19587 to 1981. While a lot of this went over my head, there were a lot of interesting facts. I do enjoy how specific it was with dates and advances. Maybe more suited to someone with a more general understanding of the topics before hand. The best part of the book were the beautiful (in-colour) pictures and images which really gave you a sense of what you were reading about and the scale of the huge telescopes. As you can imagine, since this was published in 1982, some of the ideas a slightly outdated; but that is a good thing! It means we have learnt more about our universe.
