Ice Cream at the Ashram: Holy Journey, Holy River, Holy Week
Ice Cream at the Ashram Embark on a Holy Journey--to the ancient city of Rishikesh, via airplane, taxi, train, careening bus, too many auto-rickshaws and even more dusty roads, a journey to the heart of faith. Travel to a Holy River--the Ganges, where pilgrims have immersed themselves for millennia, seeking renewal and release, a river of living water sloshing, stirring, overflowing. Stay for a Holy Week--as Christians remember the passion-filled life and death of Jesus and marvel at the mystery of resurrection, as strangers walk and talk, search and seek, argue and eat together. And what could be more holy than ice cream?

Brilliant writing. Perfect blend of memoir/journal and theological reflection. Spiritual insights are deep and stories engaging. And such beautiful writing!

I especially appreciated her push back on the traditional view of substitutionary atonement and have given it to some of my congregants to see if her words explain it better than mine. I'm hopeful that her narrative will drawn them and cause them to think in a new way alongside her.
This is a quick read that was perfect for my weekend getaway at a conference.
