Only a vampire can solve these crimes--a vampire private eye named Samantha Moon...

A vampire.
A mummy.
A mission.

Private investigator Samantha Moon is working undercover for the Fullerton Police Department’s new top-secret Vampire Crimes Special Unit (VCSU).

With the increasing number of supernatural-type crimes in and around Orange County, Detective Sherbet needs Samantha’s special talents to help solve and prosecute the real and growing threats to the citizens of Fullerton. People are dying—and some of them are already undead.

Sam’s first case for the VCSU threatens to expose her life as a vampire. When a 200-year-old mummified corpse turns up on the grounds of an Orange County mission with a note addressed to Sam, she needs to protect herself, as well as solve this case before something worse happens.

The more Sam digs into the case, the more evidence she discovers of the mission’s grisly history and scandalous past. But will there be a price to pay? What if the only way to save the people of the present from the people of the past would be to expose the truth to the public? A truth that could take down a mission that is the very foundation of a community.

To solve the mystery in the present, Samantha Moon must first solve the mystery of the past. It’s a good thing she’s a vampire. A very good thing. She’s going to need those skills…

April M. Reign was born and raised in Southern California by her happily married parents. She is the oldest of three daughters and considers both of her sisters to be her best friends.

Growing up, she was involved in many sports: softball, surfing, tennis, and Kenpo karate. Many weekends at the beach with her family included her father packing up the long boards and teaching all three daughters how to ride a wave. The activity that stands out the most for her is the thirteen years that she spent studying karate with her family. The family’s karate days remain as some of her fondest memories.

Sports weren’t the only activities that she enjoyed. She played the accordion for twelve years and even played for Jerry Lewis kids fundraisers. During those years, she learned how to read and write music.

Besides writing music, during her high school years, she also discovered her passion for writing words. At fifteen, she began writing poetry. By the time she reached the age of twenty, she was writing short stories, with no other intention than to get the stories from her mind to paper.

At twenty-one years old, she married and shortly after, two handsome sons graced her life. When her marriage ended, she faced the long, difficult path of raising her two boys into strong, well-mannered young men. She took on the task with fervor.

In order to support her children, she worked as a litigation analyst for ten years at a large company and began to pursue a career in law. After long hours in college and even more hours at the law library, while still raising her children alone, she realized that practicing law was not the dream that she wanted to live. She spent the next eleven years as a U.S. Customs Broker, working directly with the FDA and FWS, clearing international shipments into the country.

While she worked full time and raised two adolescent boys, she also decided to follow her dream to write a book. A year later, Enticing the Moon was published. Since then, she has written six more novels and several short stories, and has entered many writing contests, winning first place on several occasions.

As an indie author, April M. Reign writes and publishes her own books. With the increase in her book sales, she was able to give up her job in the corporate world and pursue her dream of writing stories which she hopes capture the attention and intrigue of her readers.

Readers can find April M. Reign’s eBooks on Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com, and more online retailers. The books are also available in print at Lulu.com.

Sam Moon is a modern day vampire working closely with the Fullerton Police Department investigating paranormal activity.

Her recent assignment involves an ancient mummy left in the church of an old California Mission and has her left with more questions than answers. Where did the mummy come from? How did he get in the church? Why was he clutching an ancient map with words written in blood saying, "Sam Moon, help me?"

Even with Sam's vampire abilities, will it be enough to battle ancient demons and Native American curses?

I really enjoyed how the author incorporated the California missions and the history of the local Indian tribes which surrounded them. I will admit this series was a bit tricky for me. It is a spin off to the book series Vampire For Hire by JR Raine. I did not read the original series, which I felt gave me a disadvantage to connect with the main character. I would recommend reading the fist book, Moon Dance, just to learn a little more about Sam Moon's past and how she became a vampire.

Pleasantly surprised

I was pleasantly surprised by this story. The author while putting her spin on the story, stuck loyally to the characteristics of the protagonist's personality, and vampiric abilities, created by the original author of the "Vampire for Hire" series, "J.R. Rain"! It was fun and just slightly Creepy! These are more novellas than, full length books. I will continue to follow this series!

Samantha Moon is on the hunt again

This story captured my attention from the very beginning and I thought it was awesome! Samantha has a new job working for detective Sherbet in the Vampire Crimes Special Unit. She also has a new partner Brent, but who and what is he? She is at a murder scene and a mummy has a message for her in his hand. A ghost is asking for her help, and a strange entity wants her dead. It's a crazy, scary, and mysterious tale that only Samantha Moon can figure out. For me it is a must read. Five-star story.

First in a new series in JR Rain’s ‘Vampire for Hire’ universe by April Reign (not related).

Moon is now working undercover with a special Fullerton police team that investigates paranormal & supernatural cases. In this one they find a mummy kneeing inside a Mission church holding a bloody note with Moon’s name on it.

Footnote: 1) I’m glad some other authors have taken on writing stories in VfH universe. I love Sam Moon and JR Rain doesn’t write them fast enough.

Fave scenes: talking to the teenager in the cemetery, breaking furniture, Sherbet’s fruit and meeting Dillan’s parents.
