An interesting / cute photography book of kittens. These are not domestic cats, but wild ones living in close proximity of humans. This is the first photography book by Hans W. Silvester that I’ve seen, but it is clear that he is good at what he does.

Most of the shots are excellent. There are shots where the composition is wonderful, and everything just works to create a memorable image. Photographs that can stand alone anywhere and still work as great photos.

But there are a few that have been included for some other reasons than photographic merits. There are even three where it is a bit of a “Where is Waldo?” to find the kittens. These photos show something specific, like one series that depicts the kittens playing, where the main purpose of the shot is to show their lives, or their place in the community. These shots have a purpose within the context of the book.

So even if not all the shots are excellent photos of the kittens, the total effect of the collection is consistent, and well thought out. All in all, a lovely book.

The photos in this one are generally really cute, with little kittens, with small bodies and huge soulful eyes - enough to make a cat lover want to add to their brood!
