It was compofed by Mr. Grove, for the direction and afiiftance of Youth in the fiudy Of Morality; and during more than Thirty 'years that he ufed it for this pur pofe, he was continually correeting and im proving it. A little before his Death he had begun to tranfcribe it for the Prefs, and to infert in their proper places the ad ditional Obfervations and Refleetions, which were, as they had occurred, written in'the margin of his original Copy. 0&on' his Death Bed he recommended the Work to my care, and I have endeavoured to anfwer the Truft, by making the belt ufe I could of his additional Obfervations and Correetions infefting thefe in their proper places, and making fuch alterations in 'con formity to the other, as were necefi'ary to render the whole confifient with his latefi: and molt exaet fent'iments.

Francis Hutcheson was an Irish philosopher born in Ulster to a family of Scottish Presbyterians who became known as one of the founding fathers of the Scottish Enlightenment. He is remembered for his book A System of Moral Philosophy.

Hutcheson took ideas from John Locke, and he was an important influence on the works of several significant Enlightenment thinkers, including David Hume and Adam Smith.

There is plenty of good material here, but he probably could have said it all in about half the space.
